Re: [WIP] The Space Pirate (I wanna play now! Great news! Pg
I've noticed some enemies sometimes getting stuck in walls, specifically zombies in Lone Survivor mode. I was playing Map 02 of Doom 2 and noticed a couple, one stuck near the red key, another stuck down in the area where the blue key is, in the corner near the door. I'd been switching between loud weapons and fists/crossbow, so I'm not sure if they didn't detect me or what, but they didn't do anything until I attacked/killed them.

Blame id for this one, the zombies and imps all already have slightly smaller radii than their vanilla counterparts:-Ghost- wrote:I've noticed some enemies sometimes getting stuck in walls, specifically zombies in Lone Survivor mode. Oh we're doing this thing, uh

After investigating, this appears to be a GZDoom specific bug for one of the SVN versions. Either update to latest GZDoom SVN or downgrade to one on the git.Shouts In Void wrote:Poison gas from green shells damages player health, but increases armor. Huh? I once had more than 1000 armor points because of that.

Scroton, thank you for your detailed answer!
From what you wrote it seem that this mod is gonna be colossal. If you guys pull it off, this will be sweet!
Wish i could be of help. But all i can do right now is write some fluff, but it seems you got that covered. If you are interested though, i would be happy to lend a hand.
Looking forward to updates!
Oh, since we're posting random music vids now:
Oh, that's how it works!scroton wrote:Did you use the melee/special button after firing to make them spread out? They are slower to account for that.
I will try that, thanks!scroton wrote:After investigating, this appears to be a GZDoom specific bug for one of the SVN versions. Either update to latest GZDoom SVN or downgrade to one on the git.

The first three actually weren't random. Hint hint, cough cough.

They weren't? Now i'm confused. They seem to belong to diffenrent genres. Seriously, what's the connection between them?Marty Kirra wrote:The first three actually weren't random. Hint hint, cough cough.

The titles of the songs are important here.Shouts In Void wrote:They weren't? Now i'm confused. They seem to belong to diffenrent genres. Seriously, what's the connection between them?Marty Kirra wrote:The first three actually weren't random. Hint hint, cough cough.

Yeah, this idea crossed my mind. But i still fail to see the principle here. The first one is Starting Over. Then comes Resurrect with a Vengeance. It starts with the the letter R, the same which was in the end of the name of the first song. So the third one should be Edgecrusher for example, but it is Photograph.Combine_Kegan wrote:The titles of the songs are important here.Shouts In Void wrote:They weren't? Now i'm confused. I feel dumb.
On a more relevant note, are you guys planning to add an option to turn auto-reload off? In a heated firefight it is better to switch to a differnet weapon, than reload the current one. With auto-reload this is difficult.

LOOK TO LA LUNA

Mark 2? What?
You read me right! The Space Pirate is getting a whole new makeover in the form of a semi-soft reboot if you will.
Why?
For the past month or so I've been really uncertain about the direction of TSP. To give a little bit of backstory, the melee system that really started this mod was mostly a way of putting the new melee system idea I had for the (canceled?) Diaz V3. I decided to make something new out of it, and thus The Space Pirate was born! Because Diaz had such a huge impact on me, I followed in it's path, but something was missing. The soul of the mod, the core, the foundation, I hadn't really thought of those before progressing. I had a cool melee system but no real direction beyond that. So whenever scroton joined up with me on the project, we kind of just kept building up and I'd throw ideas at scroton and he'd do his whole thing and work it out. But I want TSP to be more than just a bunch of cool things glued together, I want it to be cohesive project, and that all points back to the foundation.
I also have gotten incredibly lazy and have just been throwing stuff at scroton to do, which is really the opposite of what I want. I'm unable to help with a majority of the bugs because I didn't really have a part in the code, which sucks, but is also the nature of the current team setup. You can blame me for not releasing an update for almost A WHOLE YEAR, and this project is old man. I started this in 2013, isn't that crazy?! And we've only done like two updates! DUDE.
So, thus we're here, an overhaul of the mod to make it more fun and that brings us to...
Who?
Primary development will be done by me! Completely solo? That's vaguely the goal! scroton will be taking a mentor role to help me figure out some stuff but I'll be trying to do everything (or as much as I can) by myself! scroton has been an invaluable help in making the current build of TSP so fun, so there's no hard feelings (and we've discussed this so it's all bueno behind the scenes, promise!). This is the help me grow as a modder and hone my skills in a variety of different avenues. So that brings us to...
What is changing?
- A new focus in gameplay. GET LOOT! UPGRADE WEAPONS! GET MORE LOOT!
- Better feeling weapons!
- MORE WEAPONS!
- Increased focus on melee!
- JUST A BUNCH OF NEW STUFF!
- SEMI-REGULAR RELEASES! PLEASE LET IT BE!
The wrap up!
That's pretty much it! This is going to be a really fun experience and I think with your feedback (and my very generous friends), TSP will be way better than it was before! Bug reports concerning the current version will still be accepted! This is still an early thing so I'm still debating on what to carry over, what not to carry over, etc. etc.
To sum this all up, thanks for sticking by for this long! I can't wait for you all to get your hands on MKII!
the mod is still just called The Space Pirate, mk2 is just for fancy pants reveal purposes
