No he couldn't. Because it would be illegal. The licensing terms of commercial PS3 software directly contrast with that of the GPL. I mentioned this earlier, but apparently people don't read posts any more.DaMan wrote:I would think John Carmack could take PrBoom and port to the PS3 like he did with iOS.

Are console licenses that restrictive? I know they don't want any of their SDK code getting out but to dictate terms to something that has no Sony code... sounds like something Sony would do.

And Microsoft. And Nintendo. This isn't a Sony-specific thing by far. The licenses on the SDK code for these platforms are simply incompatible with the GPL.DaMan wrote:Are console licenses that restrictive? Even using GPL code on iOS can be dicey - I know that the iPhone port of VLC Media Player was pulled because one VLC developer worked at a company that competed with the iPhone and complained - but it's not entirely uncommon and there usually isn't any problems.

Re: Petitioning for "No Rest For the Living"
Update from Bethesda's community manager on an unrelated question:
It also means Steam cheevos, which is nice.
This implies that the version of Doom 2 in BFG Edition will be ported from the PS3 "Doom engine in a Id Tech 5 shell" version, which has No Rest. It'll probably take a little elbow grease to extract it from the game files in a ZDoom compatible format, though, similar to how XBLA Doom 2 used a "disk" file container or something.GStaff wrote:On the 360 versions, Xbox LIVE shows DOOM and DOOM II (or DOOM 3 BFG Edition). This is because the versions of DOOM 1 and 2 are based upon the XBLA versions. On PS3 and Steam, it shows DOOM 3 BFG. Keep in mind that the BFG Edition of DOOM 3 is not compatible for multiplayer with previously released versions.
The whole package supports a 360 controller.

It would be pretty stupid if they released this for consoles and not in any form on PC.

Doesn't Eternity support reading the "disk" container for the IWAD?Kinsie wrote:It'll probably take a little elbow grease to extract it from the game files in a ZDoom compatible format, though, similar to how XBLA Doom 2 used a "disk" file container or something.
Edit: Just checked. It does.

Re: Petitioning for "No Rest For the Living"
I've got the PC version of BFG Edition, but I can't install it until Bethesda pulls the release trigger on Steam. I'll try and keep you posted.
The tiny little two-page manual lists WASD controls (with F9 as Pause?) for Doom/Doom 2, so odds are good.

Re: Petitioning for "No Rest For the Living"
Actually Steam Dosbox-Doom already has WASD controls
. (Well, it has both "modern" WASD and classic controls, but the point remains.)

Well, There's a Steam achievement for completing No Rest For The Living, so I think that settles that.

MAPINFO is actually very important, if you want the secret exit to work correctly and send you to the secret level; as well as if you want the episode to end as expected instead of getting into Doom II's Refueling Base.

I made one, but I fucked some shit up, since I forget how to do that stuff. I'll probably try another in a bit.

Re: Petitioning for "No Rest For the Living"
Yeah, so really, only the settings based in MAPINFO are need to be configured in ordered for this to work as intended. Maybe ID realized this and left it open for us to fix.
