Ah, City of the Damned. I loved making the music for that and it really suited the map :).

I couldn't really care about any of that politics and flaming bollox. People seem to care about it too much and then it just ends up ruining things... I've had that happen in some RL sub cultures I've been in recently... It's sad to see something good devolve and wither away due to politics and flames... I always thought the point behind sub cultures was against all that crap :D. Irony: It's a pity you can't straighten it out :D.

@Risen: Nice to see you're still around :). You've even still got the same Avatar (although mine hasn't changed either :D).

Whoa hey there, I was just giving some real-life advice... didn't mean to tick you off. :)

I do recording, mixing and mastering for a living so I've worked with countless bands and even some celebrities in my local industry... I've seen bands break up because the drummer couldn't accept the fact that his vocalist girlfriend is getting so much attention. I've seen this female singer who was dumped by her "manager" halfway through the whole thing in the middle of nowhere just because she acts professional with her manager... and then there was this one drama scene outside of my studio when the vocalist found out his bassist girlfriend started another band with another guy... I've seen them all in the last 5 years.

These things also happen with some international bands in the industry that went downhill due to the whole girlfriend-boyfriend thing...

Heh, sorry there Nash... that politics things was actually nothing to do with your post :D. It was in response to when Nightmare Doom put the link up to Community Is Falling 3. I don't see the point in a lot of these flame wars. I've experienced situations amongst friends where people start to take sides and then splits form and things go crap. That's what I refer to with politics... there seems to be a lot of it in alternative sub cultures too...

@Nash: I understand what you are saying about having a partner or loved one do a musical collaboration. I'd do something like this on the side though. I like to do different projects to keep everything separate. It also gives you the opportunity to dabble in a different style... which is always fun :D. My GF also doesn't want the huge fame or anything like that... she just likes to perform. This would be like a way for her to perform whilst at the same time giving me an opportunity to work with classical female vocals. She's a very good singer.

I also plan to keep this project as just an electronic 2 piece (me on keys/synths and her on vocals with a backing track for the drums and FX). I don't plan to do a band thing for this stuff... but I am intrigued to setup a band for more industrial metal orientated stuff... I'd be the vocalist for that though :D.

What do you do for a living and how did you get it started? I remember talking to you about music stuff a while back. My studio is pretty sweet now :D. I'm using an Intel Pro Mac running Logic 7. My sound card is an Maudio Firewire solo (I was also using that same sound card before I left the Zdoom community on my old PC). I've got a Soundcraft M4 mixer (It's just a simple analogue mixer. Nothing fancy... I like things like that :D). For monitoring I'm using a pair of Mark 1 Mackie HR624's... they're really nice, especially for dance music :D. I managed to get them cheap because the new Mark 2's were about to come in and these were on clearance. Apparently the Mark 2' aren't as good as the Mark 1's :D.

At the heart of my studio however is a beastly Yamaha EX7 workstation synth :D. This synth came out in 1998 and was the top Yamaha workstation of it's time. I've read in some places that this synth sounds better than the current Motif series! It sounds awesome! It has really deep bass sounds and some amazingly rich synth/string/pad/lead sounds. I love it, especially for Drum's. I've got it connected via an Maudio midi sport 1x1 (midi in to midi out and vice versa) and the audio outputs routed through my sound card via the mixer (I also have the option to route it through the mixer just for monitoring as my sound card only has 2 inputs).

I run my guitar via a Boss Metal Zone pedal into my sound card's DI input. I then use Logic's Guitar Amp Pro with a clean valve amp. I can get some really nice guitar tones with it. I find that using an external distortion pedal really adds that extra humph. I find that most guitar amp sim distortions can't get that nice chug I'm used to from real amps.

I'm very happy with my setup as I can do anything I want to with it (I can't record a band... but that's not an issue right now :D).

Well, I've rambled on a bit there. I go now :D.

re: Yamaha EX7 -- They really don't make 'em how they used to, do they? Hehe, been wanting to get my hands on something like it, myself. I *think* my dad still has his old DX7 stashed away somewhere, but we're all a bunch of packrats so that could easily involve a year's worth of digging to find it... hmm.

Hehe, I've been wanting to 'break in' to the music world myself (not seriously, just as a hobby) and actually get some real synths and recording equipemtn. My dad was in a band for years and years so he's got a full workstation at his house, but he hasn't bothered to set it up in years. Hopefully someday we can actually get working on it so I can start using some real software for once. Impulse Tracker is great, mind you, but there's only so much sound you can squeeze out of a silly digital format, you know. ;P

In the mean time, I can dream, can't I? ;P

Hmm... maybe I should move to Malaysia so I can ask Nash for a favor or two. xD

@Xaser: Man, do whatever it takes to dig up that DX7! They are legendary synths! I'd also constantly bug your dad to setup that workstation because making music using a full setup is far more fun than trackers :D. I'm never going to stop playing/making music... it'd be a waste if I did as I've spent so much on it already :D.

@Tormentor: Thanks for the kind words :). Although I can't play Zdoom it's kinda good to be back :).

Here's some solutions.

1. Have you tried downloading the latest version of ZDoom?
2. Have you downloaded GZDoom?.

He's already mentioned that he has tried both of these.

If he's trying to run ZDoom on Windows XP, he could always try a reformat, and see if the situation resolves...but i really dunno what happens...ha says that he gets a similar crash also with Bioshock... :?

I'm not sure but I think he might be trying to run it using WinXP running on a Mac (I think that's possible... right?). If so, that just adds an additional layer of unknown things that could be going on to the list.

It's always kinda nostalgic to see the threads about the people who've left.
Even more so when you remember all the people who're being spoken of.

I prefer it when people just become less active instead of leaving all together.

Since Apple started using Intel processors they created a program called Boot camp. This allows you to partition your hard drive and install Windows. It also provides you with the drivers for Windows. It's useful and most games work really well... except Zdoom and Bioshock. I have no idea why. The Windows partition is practically a new install so a re-install will not fix this (although I have tried that recently). This also seems to only be happening to me...

The closest solution I can think of is that Win XP is old and out of date and something in it is conflicting with my hardware. I'm suspecting that upgrading to Vista may fix this with Vista being newer. Plus, all the people that have got Bioshock working on a Mac are using Vista.

However, I don't want to commit to buying Vista if it turns out that it doesn't work... dilemma... I need to ask around to see if anyone has a cracked copy of Vista :D (Hay, if it works then I'll buy it :D).

Until then, Randy has provided me a link to something called Wine... this may allow me to at least play Zdoom. If I can then I'll be attempting to make a return to mapping :).
