This include non-public stuff? Wouldn't want my HF sprite previews to just get zapped.

Stuff tied to an account is probably safe for now.
But anything uploaded anonymously will disappear. For example, since I never bothered creating an account on imgur (as far as I'm concerned, the less accounts I have on big internet stuff, the better -- I also refuse to have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Discord, etc.), all the stuff I ever uploaded to imgur will vanish.

I have been uploading anonymously over the years. Is there a quick way to see all of my posts on this forum with an imgur embed?

Search your username and imgur? You've got about 18 pages of it so have fun with that.

Well, that'll be pretty much every picture from imgur I have ever linked to getting zapped. I mean, I get why they are making the change, but free hosting without the need for an account was kind of the point for me.

Personally I would look into what they consider unused/inactive before I started to panic. If embeds still count as views/activity then cool.
Obviously if there are things you can't stand to lose, backing them up elsewhere is a good idea regardless.

That's a good point; they might well count.

Re: Heads up, Imgur TOS changes = image rot
It makes me wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea for the staff here to run a script to get all the imgur links in posts or something, and then someone could go about archiving all of the images just in case.
Honestly quite ironic to see imgur doing this, considering it was created in the first place because all the existing image hosts did shit like this

Candice mentioned she was working on something like this. Not sure when/if that might materialize. It's beyond my knowledge to implement it myself though.phantombeta wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 3:33 pmIt makes me wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea for the staff here to run a script to get all the imgur links in posts or something, and then someone could go about archiving all of the images just in case.

She mostly would just need to know that you're still interested in this.Caligari87 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 4:43 pm Candice mentioned she was working on something like this. Not sure when/if that might materialize. It's beyond my knowledge to implement it myself though.

Re: Heads up, Imgur TOS changes = image rot
Currently my script only works on the resources subforum, but it can very easily be extended anywhere we like. I’ve already got the images from that subforum downloaded via my script. The hard part is going to be figuring out where to put them (zdoom, DRDTeam, somewhere else, or if all else fails I can toss em on my personal server), and then the bit to replace all the links is very very nontrivial because there’s multiple ways Imgur pictures can be inserted in posts, and some of them are tied explicitly to Imgur, meaning I’ll have to change those base tags to img, along with the bbcode. Work in progress but the time sensitive part of the resources subforum is done, ie, I have a backup of all the Imgur pics there.

Re: Heads up, Imgur TOS changes = image rot
So what about uploading embedded images directly into the forum or close enough? The point is, somewhere that can be trusted the stuff won't suddenly go out of the window.
