For one, it looks like it no longer damages enemies if they are too close, it goes straight through them, while some enemies are seemingly not affected anymore at all.
I discovered the latter with Rippers, it seems to consistently go through them, leaving them unscathed.

The same behavior can be witnessed with older pre-refactoring versions. The reason for this is simply that the projectiles are spawned at a distance from the player and pass the nearby enemy on the side, i.e. it never hits them at all.
