Contrary to popular belief, we are not all-knowing-all-seeing magical beings!

If you want help you're going to have to provide lots of info. Like what is your hardware, what is your operating system, what version of GZDoom/LZDoom/whatever you're using, what mods you're loading, how you're loading it, what you've already tried for fixing the problem, and anything else that is even remotely relevant to the problem.

We can't magically figure out what it is if you're going to be vague, and if we feel like you're just wasting our time with guessing games we will act like that's what you're really doing and won't help you.

ZDoom Forum technical issue with ModDB

Post by Blake00 »

Apologies if this is the wrong place for forum technical issues but I couldn't find anywhere else lol!

I recent moved image and download hosts for my GZDoom mod projects (Star Trek Doom and Quest For Glory IV 3D Hexen) over to ModDB. I went to update my old threads here and ran into the strangest of problems.

Fort some weird reason if I attempt to use any ModDB hosted image links in a img tag in a new post it just hangs forever when I hit submit. If I edit an existing post and change an image link to an image hosted on moddb the same forever hang happens.

Same thing happens if I try different browsers.

Post an image here hosted on another site, no probs. Post a link to a moddb hosted image on another forum, no probs. Very weird issue!

Can anyone replicate the problem?

Eg here's a link to one of my Star Trek Doom images without img tags on it otherwise the problem of course happens. See if you can put it in img tags in your post.

It's a routing issue on Linode's end. It has this problem a lot with backbone-hosted services. Your best bet is to use imgur.

Bummer.. yeah I do use imgur these days for most things, however I was using moddb more for presenting my various mod projects as they make and host separate thumbnail images for you saving me the trouble of making my own haha! Forums like yours that have strict rules on not posting huge images (that stretch posts or slow load threads ) are a prime example of why I like sites that make the thumbnails for you. Some forums support custom image sizes in the img tags but so many don't sadly.

Oh well.. no worries, thanks for letting me know.

Imgur makes thumbnails for you, in fact the forum uses Imgur's API directly for that.

Simply put in tags the imgur url like this

Code: Select all

[imgur]https://imgur.com/RpRrx7k[/imgur]
and imgur automatically generates the thumbnail for you (which the forum uses), like this:
