How to auto respawn?

I've seen this feature where when you die, you automatically restart the level or the most recent save is automatically loaded, but this doesn't seem to be working for me, and I can't figure out how to enable it. For me, when I die, I just sit there for eternity, or until I bring up the menu, and either, manually load a save or start a new game.

press your "use" key
alternatively use quick load and save keys

Also a cheaty way to respawn would be to bind a key to do the "resurrect" command. I use this mainly for map testing though.
