Skip confirmation of quicksaving/loading

Post by Kostov »

It's nice having bound the quicksave and quickload keys to a comfortable position. It's also nice that the mouse position is remembered when I click "Yes" after a confirmation pops up after telling ZDoom I want to quicksave or quickload.

What would be even nicer, is an option to skip that very confirmation so I can quicksave just as easily as in any Bethesda game. :)

Personally, having to hit a confirmatory "Y" when quick saving has never bothered me (indeed, it's stopped me overwriting a save accidentally on more than one occasion) but, as an option, I do see that it would be useful for people who want it.

Interesting to note: These commands are really just binds to the console's save command, with a preset name ("quick"). So suppressing confirmation will affect all uses of console-based saving.

What I'd like to see would be a quickload function that loads the most recent save, using the same logic as when you die. Why? Because I've already remapped my quick save key to use the autosave function (and increased the number of autosave slots from 4 to 10). This way a quicksave doesn't overwrite the previous quicksave. When you've quicksaved a bit too eagerly (such as when you weren't aware there was a rocket inbound less than 10 map units in your back) or when a freeze or crash while saving simply erased your save from existence, it's quite useful to keep the backup.

I might write that one of these days. It doesn't look like it'd be very complicated.

Not a bad idea. The alternative would be dedicated quicksave/quickload commands that use a looping list like autosaves do.

Personally, I like being able to nominate a particular save as the quick one and, just as importantly, being able to change which one is nominated without having an auto replaced limited number of quick saves. I regard it as a strength of the save system.

yes pls. very annoying this confirmation.

quicksave really should save via single key press. Otherwise I'm almost faster finding f2 key and pressing twice the enter key xD

But more important to me is the whole handling of quicksaving which I mentioned in this thread: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=46026

And Graf Zahl had a very good idea to this. So I got positive feedback about it :)

I used the Voodoo Doll on that Bloated Butcher enemy in the game "Blood" :)

Next time you should use PM though, because this is now very far offtopic : x
