Some Good WW2 Textures?

Post by Bitterman »

I find in Doom, the urban textures become a bit lacking. Sure you have the Duke 3d ports, but its not enough. I want to know if there some good urban/military textures that fit in nicely with a World War II wad. Skies are a bonus.

Track down a copy of the old Panzer Elite demo, it has an extensive village texture set in BMP format, in 64x64 tiles.

Well Bitterman, this looks like yer lucky day :) I just happen to have a huge amount of those WW2 textures you require. Many of them are hi-res textures, the rest are resized to around 224×224. All of them are seamless (some of them weren't, but I made it so). You shall find them at the Realm667 forums under the TEXTURES topic.

Mortyr 2 textures - Perfect WW2 stuff, even with vehicle and model textures. There are great numbers of bunker, grass, furniture, and various concrete textures, including Hitler flags, Nazi symbols and stuff. Luckily Mortyr 2's graphical engine was a million times better than the first one had, so it was worth taking them out. The game itself is like "The Sky May Be" for the Doom community. Mediocre to bad.

Sztálin Subway 2 - Very neat and colorful textures, including various building interiors, subway textures, tons of brick and stone variationz, extrerior building decorations, such as facades. Hmm. Unlike Mortyr 2, it has communist-themed stuff in it, although not too much. There are also a lot of extremely useful stuff in this archive. Otherwise, Sztálin Subway 2 is a horrendously bad game. I'd rather play wow.wad than touching this utterly big piece of garbage. Graphics are fine, the game is a vomit.

You Are Empty - This is the game with the most beautiful textures, and lots of them are hi-res. You Are Empty itself is a pretty enjoyable Russian FPS, sort of a Resident Evil-Red Alert 2 mix from a Communist Party member's perspective. Thus, it has a lot of commie symbols, wallpapers etc. in it. This archive is the largest, and contains all possible surfaces, from paved concrete to building interior right to cliffs, natural vegetation textures, lots of nice fences and grates, and nicely ornamented doors-windows as well. They were taken from real-life scenarios, so it's just perfect to work with. And yes, it also has lots of very nice sky textures which you "mite" find useful.

Sniper: Art of Victory - Another game from the author of Sztálin Subway 2. Ripping is still in progress, DTX file extension is a bitch. The game experience is approx. the same with Mortyr 2...don't try it.

Since wildweasel wouldn't let me post it here, I posted'em to the Realm667 forums in distinctive topics. The links should be workin' fine. And keep in mind: these graphics are unpaletted, and they never meant to be paletted. I still hope you could find'em useful.

Try Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Since its a Id Tech 3 game, I think the textures are stored in pk3 files, so it will not be hard to extract them with Slade 3.

Sure, here they are...

Sztálin Subway 2 - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1232275/Szt%C3%A1linSubway2.pk3
You Are Empty - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1232275/YouAreEmpty.zip
Mortyr 2 - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1232275/Mortyr2.pk3

All of them are checked. Ahem, working fine. It's around 3000 textures alltogether, so it'll pretty much satisfy your needz...at least I hope.

I'm receiving an error when I try to open it in Slade, "Invalid or Unsupported format file", is it a Pk7 renamed in Pk3 format?
P.S. I unzipped it, just brilliant.

I know, these archives weren't meant to be immediately opened in Slade or another editor for that matter. You have to unzip it and manually insert the textures to your TC/mod. I chose PK3 because this was the only format which Realm667 approved, and isn't a WAD. These are all clean stuff, and I refined each image manually, this is why their names are longer than 8 characters. Note that sometimes I gave Hungarian titles for the images rather than English, simply because it was shorter. "Beton" stands for concrete, "Parkany" stands for edge, rim, and "Putri" stands for grungy, derelict, crumbling walltypes, originated from gypsies' living place, where they litter around and urinate under themselves, phew! They are also called "putri". I'm glad you like'em though :D

Well yes :? Since I packed all possible textures which I found in the game (even decals, patches etc), I decided it'd be much better than to give distinguishable names to textures, and the hopeful, who downloads the package will decide which textures he'll need and use only them :) Mostly however, they're under 8 characters. I'm glad I could help :D
