angled vs. centered
what weapons sprites are better angled ones or centered ones, and would it be weird to have a weapons mod with both types?

Depends on what you're going for, and yes.
Though, some mixing is okay, like doing centered for regular weapons and angled for shoulder-mounted stuff.

Re: angled vs. centered
Mixing types of guns is always awkward. Sole exception is if it's because you're using an aim-down-sight system. As for which type I prefer, I tend to prefer angled weapons, as it keeps the gun out of the way of seeing where you're walking, and also allows the weapon to appear more detailed.

I like angled guns too but alot of the r667 guns are centered, and that's no good.wildweasel wrote:Mixing types of guns is always awkward. Re: angled vs. centered
I like the fact that you get a better impression of what the gun is meant to look like with an angled view and you can see more detail on it.
However, I generally prefer centred weapons because I like looking down the line of the barrel when I fire and, contrary to popular belief, it is actually usually a more realistic position for a weapon that you are firing to be in relative to your field of view. Not that realism counts for much.

Re: angled vs. centered
For Chibi Rebellion and some other projects, I do both. When the weapon hasn't been used, it moves to an idle state. Larger weapons usually are cradled closer to chest, smaller ones move to side. When fired, they center up.
Re: angled vs. centered
You can do the "almost" centered look that most modern games seems to use. But I depends on the weapon. Some weapons can't be centered (realistically speaking), such as a shoulder-mounted RPG.

Centered weapons are my preference, but as long as if they aren't those terrible-looking "down the sights" sprites, and more in line with the original doom weapon sprites.

Re: angled vs. centered
Centered. Preferably in a way that makes it ambiguous which hand the player character is using for the trigger.
Angled takes up more space, looks like arse, is easy to draw in a way that the gun points nowhere near where you ought to be shooting, forces lazy developers or resource-limited modders to make assumptions about the player, and is just bad for the soul.

Re: angled vs. centered
I've seen something like that, the person had replaced the shotgun with a bolt action sniper rifle and it was't pointing any ware the crosshairs. I think I might be able to get away with having at least two weapons centered and the rest angled as the rapid zorcher and laz device from chex quest were centered and the rest were angled.Vaecrius wrote:Centered. Re: angled vs. centered
Angled vs. Centered doesn't make much difference to me, as long as the sprite is good.
However, as Eriance said, you can't hold an RPG in front of your face and look down the sights.

Centred for me too. If you think about some of the angled weapons, you would have to hold the weapon parallel to your face to see that view, or have eyeballs in your chest.

Centered for guns & stuff, angled for Swords & various melee weapons.

You can mix 'em, if done right. (See Hacx: The shoulder-held weapons appear on the side and it works pretty well.)
