Doom Builder 1.4 issue

Post by HotWax »

Whenever I try to switch to 3D mode, the window minimizes, the screen flickers, and then I get dropped back to the editor with this error:

Code: Select all

Error -2005529767 while initializing 3D mode: Automation error
This happens in Ultimate Doom's E1M1 and with a simple 3-sector map I constructed to further test it.

My 3D-mode options are as follows:

Video Driver: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600
Resolution: 800 x 600 x 32 & 75 Hz
Texture Filtering: None
View distance: 3000 mappixels

FOV: 80 (default (?))
Move Speed: 400
Mouse Speed: 50
Gamma: 10
Brightness: 0

Enable Fog: Yes
Invert mouse Y axis: Yes
Precache resources when starting: No
Stay below ceiling with gravity on: Yes
Fixed resolution aspect: Yes
Autocomplete texture name when typed: Yes
Cache structure data buffers: No
Move ceiling when aimed at sidedef: No

OS: Windows XP SP1
Vid driver: Detonator v53.03
Desktop resolution: 1280x1024x32bpp

P.S: While I'm on the subject, could you please think about adding a button to toggle dragging the map view using the mouse? IMO, the less keyboard input required to just move around the map and shift things about, the better. The default bind could be MOUSE3, since no shortcut currently uses it. The functionality would be simple -- while the button is held, the cursor vanishes/remains stationary and dragging the mouse moves the map around as if you were pressing the cursor keys. Once released, the mouse resumes normal operation.

I used to get this error randomly (sometimes quite frequently too), but usually if I tried entering 3d mode again it would work fine...

The mouse scrolling idea sounds good to me too ;)

I have the same videocard you have. THIS is the appropriate driver, please try it with that.

I was referring to the fact that last release, the about page said 1.03 instead of 1.30.

It was a joke. You laugh.
Perhaps it sucked. I’ll shut up now.

I've gotten that error while in 3D mode, everytime I double clicked the mouse.

That's the driver I'm already using.

I've tried and tried, and I get the error every time. I even tried changing every option in the 3D mode tab of the configuration, but nothing helped.

Nay.

It's 1.1, 1.2, 1.3,1.4,1.5,........1.38,1.39,1.40

It's a version/revision count, just separated by dot. It's not
a decimal count as in numbers.

But these days nobody seems to give a shit bout proper version/revision declaration anyway :(

Since this topic is about Doom Builder, I can't script anything in Doom Builder (For ZDoom and Hexen, legacy works fine.)

The download page says it's 1.40. I abbreviated that (perhaps mistakenly) to 1.4. Most people see those as the same thing, and the only reason ZDoom is different is because it used to use a beta system, with beta 1, beta 2, beta 23, etc... now, the beta XX part has been tacked onto the end of the version number, so 2.0.17... 2.0.42... etc.

DX is version 9.0b.

Just checked Windows Update, looks like I'm missing a couple critical patches, but they don't seem to be anything related to graphics or anything else that could explain the issue. I'll install them and let you know.

Okay, I have all the critical updates and all the other updates that matter (e.g. I have absolutely no reason to care about an upgrade to wireless functionality, having no components that would use it...) and I still have the same issue.

Also, another thing I just noticed. You need to fix DB so that by default when a Thing is placed it, at the very least, is set to appear in Single Player. Currently by default each Thing is set not to appear ever, and each one has to be manually set to appear. Quite annoying. I'd suggest the defaults being single-player and cooperative, or else all three.

It's major version -dot- minor version -dot- revision (and optionally -dot- build number), which seems to be pretty standard.
