Yeah, I Know, But Gee... As Soon As I Post? C'mon, Just watch the topic as it progresses. I and Carn too think it is a good Idea, same with jimmy91 and theshooter7TheDarkArchon wrote:He's one of the developers. 'nuff said.StrikerMan780 wrote:Not True. Maybe you sould keep track of the thread before jumping to conclusions.Graf Zahl wrote:That would make the skin non-self-contained so IMO it's a bad idea.

Not necessarily. What's wrong with using something like "grunt/death", which plays one of a couple different random sounds, and is defined within zdoom.pk3? By shooting this down, you'd be preventing these "legal" uses, which could prove to be quite beneficial.Graf Zahl wrote:That would make the skin non-self-contained so IMO it's a bad idea.

This idea is mainly meant for skulltag, which has better handling of skins, and I am working on my ConsoleDoom 64 mod, in which already has about 20 new skins, and a lot of them made by me, such as a Link skin from legend on zelda, and such, here is a list:prdarkfox wrote:Because there aren't many decent skins, for one. And most of the decent skins don't use custom sounds.Cutmanmike wrote:Erm... Well I have no objections to this but I don't think that many people who play multiplayer here USE skins.
1. Link
2. Sonic
3. QuakeGuy
4. Q2Female
5. Q2Male
6. Duke Nukem
7. The Battlelord
8. The Cyberdemon
9. Heretic Imp
10. Tails
11. High-Res Doom64 Guy
.... and many more (I am at school so I don't have enough time to list them all)
But the skins I make are good quality, they all have custom sounds, every single one, I have used them in multiplayer with many people, such as Chris_Redfield, and DoomKid. They especially liked my link skin and someone else's Mario Skin I Included. But yes, It is a GOOD idea, if this is done, It might spark more interest in skins.
Including the fist replacement, but that is not neccecary.
And this is mainly for SKULLTAG's SKININFO Lump. But I think carn could do it easiliy

In my mind, this pretty much seals it. If the people actively working on ZDoom don't want to do it for whatever reason they choose, then let the people working on Skulltag handle it.StrikerMan780 wrote:This idea is mainly meant for skulltag
Also, I don't think adding capabilities like this would really encourage any amount of interest in skins. The only thing that would spark some real skinning interests is if ZDoom changed the way its netcode worked to encourage a larger online playing community, so you know... people might actually have a reason to use skins. But that isn't very likely to happen.

Most skins are now embedded into the wads with levels and such, like a mod or something, like ConsoleDoom 64 For Example. There are new skins to fit the theme that the Mod is based on console versions of doom, so I put in some character from doom64 and load of other console games (sonic for example)Cutmanmike wrote:The only reason I don't like using skins is because the other person has to have them. And not alot of people bother.
So what I mean is if you had a mod, and it had skins, and the people want to play the mod for it's gameplay and levels anyway, the skins are already in the mod's wad, so the would not need to have the skins, they are already there in the single wad! so they are all set!
