I can't get GZDoom working (and it broke my video!)
I think my computer and GZDoom hate each other.
I've just installed GZDoom to see what all the buzz is about. To be on the safe side, I back up my .ini files created by Zdoom and move them to another folder (hey, I can reset my controller config later). Upon clicking on the GZDoom icon, though, I get a large black box sitting in the upper-right corner of my screen. It continues to sit there.
OK.
So, I alt-f4 out of that, and try again. To my surprise, Doom shows up a moment later - in greens and purples, and there seems to be two of them in the upper half of the screen - one on the left, one on the right. Figuring this to be a video problem, I go to "video settings" and play around with what I find there, to increasingly odd results. Changing the renderer to anything but "OpenGL" freezes the program entirely.
Also, it seems my default screen settings have been changed, as well - the brightness of the screen is set very high and everything looks washed-out. I suspect that OpenGL rendering is causing my computer to have a panic attack. Any ideas?

This only sometimes works. I had a system where the washed out lookKinsie wrote:As far as the brighter colours, just reset your PC.
stayed no matter how many time you restart.
The solution : Run a map with GZDOOM that has
a decorate/map error which can cause it to crash. That second
before GZDOOM starts it actually sets the display back to normal
and it crashes around there if the map being loaded is faulty.

Aha. Well, that took care of the color problem, anyways. (I used the MRWNiya wrote:This only sometimes works. I had a system where the washed out lookKinsie wrote:As far as the brighter colours, just reset your PC.

As for the graphics card, it claims it's a "RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X". Make of that what you will - I'm not really a hardware guy.

ATI Cards generally have more power, though. But NVidia Cards are cheap(er). I guess it depends on what you want. For example, I spent $400 on an ATI X850XT AGP card (Not very wise I guess) but it's powerful enough to play most games at Maximized Settings (Including BattleField 2 and FEAR.)Shinjanji wrote:Just an experienced suggestion: If/when you do upgrade, SWITCH TO nVIDIA!
Seriously. ATI cards have too many problems, in my opinion.
