Decals Should Be Included

Post by Sparky »

I Think Its Bad That Zdoom Doesnt Have Decals For Heretic/Hexen
But Just Doom

I Have Asked This Many Times BEfore, I Didnt Really Get Much Of An Answer

I Know Enjay Has Some, But There Just Doom Decals Made For Heretic
I Think If Randy Is Going To Make Something For One Game, He Should Make It For The Rest

GetHereticDecals() failed due to the fact that the forum member has not visited Enjay's page, neither is able to state a proper typed question. Look for hhdecals.wad.

I would guess that the bs is due to the fact that they asked you not upper every word because it is a bit annoying. Not that I mind... BTW, I don't play Heretic or Hexen 1/10 as much as I do Doom, so it doesn't bother me, but that's just me.

Your English teacher.

And it's the way morons type. Oops, didn't mean to be redundant.

I don't have to.

And I don't give a shit how you typed that post, I'd still give you BS because, thanks to Randy, you have the ability to make your own damn decals, or thanks to Enjay, go and download the damn things like the lazy ass you are, but no, instead you have to demand that Randy include decals for Heretic and Hexen. When you're paying his salary, you can do that. Until then, STFU.

Sparky: If you have Splash3.wad in your /skins folder then your entire argument is NEGATED. Splash3.wad was made by Corwin, not Randy. Randy implemented the TERRAIN lump and all that it can do. It was Corwin that figured out how to use all that and made Splash3.wad for the rest of us to use. Hey though, if you have that wad, you'd better delete it because Randy didn't do it and only what Randy hard-codes into ZDoom is of any use in ZDoom. In fact, delete all PWADs and other stuff too unless they were made by Randy. Hey, Randy didn't make those Doom IWADs either... hmm... *delete*

Oh well. At least we've got the console to play with!

It should be easy to make decals for Hexen and Heretic. If I get bored later, I'll make one. Right now I'm writing an essay.

Okay, I went ahead and made decals for some of the Hexen weapons using existing graphics. Decals include:

Fighter's hammer
Fighter's Quietus

Cleric's snakestaff
Cleric's firestorm

Mage's wand
Mage's frost shards
Mage's Bloodscourge

The others I didn't include because I couldn't think of any decals to use (or it needed no decal, like the lightning). I was going to add a decal for the fighter's axe but got lazy. Also, the decal for the mage's staff is a little weird because the binding box is larger than it looks, so the decal may look "off" sometimes.

Enjoy.

well, im not bad mouthing randy i just dont think its fair
this way, like not having splashes for water like hexen or heretic
but someone made something for that
i mean, you need to make somethign different for heretic and hexen
those graphics were made for doom

it doesnt have to come from randy, but make something new
i guess these decals will have to do until randy does add decals for these games

I haven't checked my decals with the newer Zdooms, but I did notice a few decals I was using for Aspects looked odd when I used them with 2.0.48 and upwards.

One colour in the decal seemed to be getting mapped differently and left a whole bunch of square pixel "holes" in the decal where it should have been quite dark. It was easy enough to fix, but seeing as how I haven't updated the decals on my site, they may have the same problem. That being said, most of the decals are based on the Doom ones, so perhaps the problem won't occur.

And related to this - how do I set up an PNG to have offsets that will be read by Zdoom?
