Doombuilder prefabs?
Anyone know of or have any Doombuilder prefabs I can use for Mapping?
Re: Doombuilder prefabs?
Why not just take finished maps directly and compile them as a megawad.Apothem wrote:Anyone know of or have any Doombuilder prefabs I can use for Mapping?
or, just download a megawad from the archive directly. You'd be saving so much time.

I think you misunderstood something here...Kristus wrote:Why not just take finished maps directly and compile them as a megawad.Apothem wrote:Anyone know of or have any Doombuilder prefabs I can use for Mapping?

My interpretation:
I think he's saying that if you are relying on other people's mapping, why not just compile their maps into a a wad wholesale and forget the creativity part of mapping totally.
If that is the case, I think there is a place for nice little consoles, pillars and other structures that people could plug into their levels just as most of us already do with textures, sprites DECORATE monsters and, to a lesser extent, scripts. However, it could also end up with the old "Oh look, that's Kristus' console prefab - again" syndrome.

Yah, I knew Kristus wasn't in favour of people using his stuff, and he has made comments in the past to the effect that people should come up with their own stuff rather than use that of others, which is why I interpreted his comment in the way I did.
I can see his point of view, but it's not mine. IIRC, he doesn't want to see elements of his work that he has taken time and effort on being rehashed into another - potentially inferior - piece of work. He also seems to be of the opinion that it is usually (maybe even always)preferable for someone to be original and produce something of their own rather than rely on the work of others. (Please correct me if I'm wrong Kristus.)
I, however, am quite happy for anything I produce to be used by others. If it helps someone get their project finished, or just allows them to have a bit of fun playing around with Doom, then that's a good thing IMO and it's no skin off my nose. I've already done my thing and enjoyed it. As long as I get a credit from anyone who releases something that includes a piece of my work, then any effort I may have put in has been acknowledged and I'm happy. Being asked is always nice. If I'm not asked but I am credited, then I'm fine with that. I think my opinion that it's OK to use my stuff is pretty well known so I guess (perhaps for that reason) some people don't bother, but I do check text files when I spot something I recognise as mine in a mod.

That's almost as bad as hotwax deletes the SCRIPTS lump out of all the wads he used.
