I'm interested in the whole damn project... I think it's a good idea! Plus, I've already stated my willingness to playtest the levels once all the construction is done. (Single-player only, sadly... My modem/firewall/timeframe isn't good for co-op mode.)

If Legacy plays better in the future, why not.... I hear Legacy is looking to add slopes and some other ZDooM features after the C++ rewrite.... That should give people the ability to make really nice detailed maps for it. Besides I don't understand this whole over-the-top Legacy-bashing thing that runs here. I mean sure ZDooM's better, but Legacy's at least trying to become a nicer port, and unlike the people here, most Legacy forum members and Legacy users aren't hell-bent on bashing ZDooM. In fact they look to ZDooM for some of their methods. I think it's about time people stopped being childish and stopped bashing Legacy and Vavoom. Just like the whole NewDoom/DoomWorld thing is and always was stupid and childish.... Anyways....

Most of it stems from the old days (read: several years ago), when Legacy literally was the most bug-ridden port in existence (seriously, you could barely go 5 minutes without running into some sort of bug), ZDoomers liked to point out the fact, and pro-Legacy guys came up with various anti-ZDoom sentiments in retaliation.

It's simply carried on from there, though things are nowhere near as heated as they used to be :).

Yeah but here they are.... People here still seem to love bashing Legacy, whereas I almost never even see anyretaliation from the Legacy people....

How is that C++ rewrite coming, anyway? I heard that once that's finished, its going to blow the doors off of Legacy editing.

Also, is it true that Doomsday is based off Legacy?

Nobody knows. But from looking into the CVS one could get the impression that not much is happening.

No, it's not true. In fact, these 2 source ports are completely different.

Seriously, what could they complain about? THe one real thing is the absence of 3D floors in ZDoom.

Most of the bashing is the result of several more or less serious issues in Legacy which make it quite useless for certain maps, especially several missing compatibility options. This makes it quite problematic for several old maps that abuse these tricks.

For me the biggest issue is the 35 fps cap. I've gotten so used to an uncapped framerate that I am having real problems with source ports that don't. It's just giving me a headache... :(

Uh, heh, sorry but even KDIZD is under-detailed for me.... Too underdetailed infact....

Yeah, at least I hope.... But it'll certainly be good once that's done, because they can then move on to adding new features to the new C++ version.

As for the progress on the C++ rewrite of Legacy, it's coming along. Something tells me they're going to post some News soon about how far along they are with that...! :P You can also check the Legacy forums to see what they're talking about....

Dittohead wrote:Also, is it true that Doomsday is based off Legacy?

 O_o That's the first time I've even hearing such a rumour. As far as I know Jaakko Keranen has never even taken a look at the Legacy code at any point....
