Re: Your toughts on WW1 for games or wads ?
I was working on a slighly post-ww1 mod, if that counts, long before I joined the forums. Was going to feature Freikorps remnants (look them up
), occultists and a big sloppy helping of Lovecraft/Weird Tales strangeness. Had the weapons worked out (including stormtrooper discus grenades, and a completely original centred Mauser c96 with full animations- probably my best spriting ever).
Was going pretty well, at least as a weapons and enemies only mod, since I hadn't started mapping then. Then I had a meltdown and a lot of stuff got deleted. Sniff.
Would be a pretty fun project, someday....
And there are loads of classical german orchestral songs in midi format

I think the setting is cool. Castlevania Bloodlines takes place during WWI and there is even a german military base level.

I've only ever found WW1 to work well for horror games (either with zombies/Cthulhu shoehorned in - or just being based around the horrors of war). I find that attempts to make it into more of a standard FPS often just trivializes the conflict (but I guess you could argue the exact same thing about *any* tradtional FPS set during a real war).
Here's a relevant YouTube video that I don't think anyone has linked yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKKYDSJ-mfM.

It's true there will be some rough stones along the way,but eventually from time to time there will be a gem hidden among the rubbles.
All we can do is wait and see.
