Infesting the forum with links to data collecting sites like Facebook will get a strict 'no' from me. ZDoom.org is one of very few sites I run without a web filter, it'd be a shame if I had to add one here, too.

People do miracles for a bunch of likes. I've seen sex tapes get released for 10K likes in Facebook. I agree with Graf. Lets not turn this place into Facebook or any of the other social media.

I don't think the suggestion was to link to Facebook, but rather to integrate a voting function to the site, like how reddit has upvotes, facebook has likes, etc, so users could agree with a post without commenting.

That said, I don't think it would be a good idea here. We already have enough of a problem with people posting just to be posting. Imagine if they were encouraged to post with shiny rank badges.

"Likes", karma/reputation systems and other such things never bring anything worthwhile to a forum IMO. They just result in people trying to game the system so as to have their existence validated by a meaningless statistic on a website. Cliques of people repping each other, like-bait posts, etc. We're much better off without this silliness.

I'm with Gez, Nash, Lud and Graf. I don't agree to the like button. The ZDoom Forums isn't a Facebook/Twitter place of gathering.. and it shouldn't be treated as such.
