[WIP] Descent Into Darkness 0.4 (4 maps in one year...)

Post by Skitplade Miles »

Image
Logo still looks big enough...

I came up with a decent name: Descent Into Darkness yay.

The next level is almost done and I've made some edits to the other levels.

Download
Download midi version (outdated as of now)

I would describe it as a difficult Painkiller-ish level, both graphical design and playstyle.
I'm planning on making five maps in total.

Agreed! It looks like Quake and Doom 64 mixed. Please keep working on them! I'd love to see this as a finished map pack.

Played through it a couple times, it's a lot of fun! Always happy to see more fantasy-themed maps and mods :D. Looking forward to seeing more!

The problem is that I usually don't have a lot of inspiration.

Well, you don't always need do all the architeture on your own, try to get some inspiration from concept arts, movies, series, other games, just think "what if this room were like Doom64?"

Many times the basic shape of the maps i make is based from somewhere, i just go detail them to my style and place actor later, and if they aren't then it's because i got inspiration from music.

I actually haven't used Doom64 as a source of inspiration. I used "Mourning Palace" by Dimmu Borgir as inspiration for the first map and the other ones are also largely based on music.

I generally just mess around with the tools at my disposal 'till I get something I'm happy with.

I just found out that the current version has no sound effects on the first map, here's a quick fix:
replace "PALACEIN" in the SNDINFO with "PALACE" and it should work.

Wonder if that had anything to do with the problem I had before. On certain Gzdooms the wind on the first map was 10 times louder then it should have been.
