I was intending to bring this up as well. I found it pretty forgiving, at least against AI opponents. It helps that my very first game was a coop vs AI match with a good teacher.Trance wrote:Company of Heroes

The resource system in particular is different from what you'd find in a Blizzard RTS, since you get a steady income of resources from any territories you control (as long as they connect back to your base territory). You don't have to worry about pathing peasants around and whatnot. Throw in some tanks, and the ability to call in an airstrike, and map control becomes a very satisfying thing.

Cool thing about CoH, you don't have to tech to tanks. You can beat and win the match on infantry alone. ;DNeuralStunner wrote:The resource system in particular is different from what you'd find in a Blizzard RTS, since you get a steady income of resources from any territories you control (as long as they connect back to your base territory). Real War, by Rival Interactive. Only good thing about it is the voice of the drill sargeant from Full Metal Jacket. My brother played it, it sucks. I never touch this game, ever. wait, how about Command and Conquer, the first one? That one is good for people who suck.

...weeeell, there's a clear advantage to teching to armor. The dynamics of the match instantly change when the first small-arms-immune vehicle hits the field, allowing a player to reassert control over areas dominated by machine guns, snipers and well-placed riflemen. Now it's perfectly possible to defeat those armored vehicles using purely infantry (bazookas) and crew-served weapons (AT guns), but armor is still incredibly useful at the right times and places and is a massively important part of your average match.Hellser wrote:Cool thing about CoH, you don't have to tech to tanks. Technically yes, you don't have to tech to tanks, but in nearly all cases you'll be well-served doing so.

Wish infantry were as useful in red alert 2. Tank rushes are funny for a while then make the game repetitive as hell. Same with a lot of units being useless except in stupid modes like no attack for 50 minutes -Only mode where building nuke\storm\Dominator is remotely considerable).
