Just remaking them in truecolor with nice shading does an enormous difference. Some textures like rock, dirt or gravel that cover large areas in-game also look a whole lot better if you quadruple them in size but keep them at the same density, which makes them tile a whole lot more nicely.
Yes it's true. High and smooth resolution "kills" look of the original game. I like the look of the original textures but also I want to do something a little different but in the spirit of the original game.

Just using truecolor graphics gives you a ton of freedom to use your personal touch and tweak style/mood even in standard dimensions and density. Here's a Doom texture I remade for example, next to the original for comparison.

Photobased steel plate texture. Awfully generic.

It makes a cool horizontal-tiling-only sky though! (JPEG because the PNG size would be insane. Not that the quality is bad though.)

Thanks much for posting this. Just found it. Been looking for textures to make a skybox wad for Memento Mori ][ as I've gotten tired of the short sky for it but wanted a skybox that still looked Jupiterish.

EDIT: No, this does not work as a Skybox as it is. It is instead an HD normal sky as it is right now.

Are you sure you've tried fucking around with the sides? Skyboxes are really fucking annoying to align right at times.
And I've seen a SpaceScape skybox be used in NIY after a lot of tinkering.

That's what I'm trying to do now is tinker and tinker and tinker with it. Is the order to put things in GLDEFS, for skyboxes, N, E, S, W, T, B, with the top and bottom aligned with the N face? Has that changed from what I read in the wiki for GLDEFS? My 2.1+ build of GZDoom doesn't seem to be following the behavior of the wiki for Skyboxes, but I really need to know which cardinal directions are used to set the alignment of the top and bottom of the skybox.

Well, once you get the north/south/east/west lined up you only have to try top and bottom and rotate the graphics for them by 90 degrees at a time until they line up.

The actual order with such a space-box is entirely irrelevant.

I got a feeling this texture won't work as a Skybox. Observe:

Here I have the North, East, and West sides lined up, but obviously not the Top, though I have not rotated yet.

BUT, take a look here, at this, of the South and Bottom:

South and Bottom sides are alined, but NOT with the North, East, and West sides, and I'm not sure if they ever can be... I've been spending a good bit of a snow day home from work screwing around with this and I'm not sure if the Bottom and South sides can be flipped, mirrored, rotated to get them in a position to match up with the North, East, and West.

IIRC, you my have to flip the graphic for the either the floor/ceiling to get it to line up. (rotating is unnecessary though, if you change which textures are N S E W then the floor and ceiling don't have to move)

Well, which of the textures in the set are meant to be the North side? The textures are marked of course using front, right, left, back, up and down, and going with the assumption that the the 'front' texture was supposed to be the North texture, back South, right East, left west, and up top, down bottom, the results were even worse, nothing was aligned with anything. Oh, and with the sides assigned as they are now, mirroring and rotating the top is of no help, it will not line up with any top of the cardinal direction sides. Top texture btw is the one without any red/yellow galaxy 'bands' in it, at least from what I can tell.

This is my second attempt with this set of skybox graphics btw. I was able to at one point, get the South , Top, and Bottom sides all aligned together on an earlier attempt today, but those three sides were still out of alignment with the N, E, and W sides.

Some handmade textures. Metal light switch, some sort of metal, and some wiring stuff.

Nice. I should try and make retextures of different doors. Not like recolors, but like what jax did.
