Idea: Film Noir mod for Doom. Perhaps a whole story in its own, different enemies, weapons, etc. Where you are a private eye investigating one case per level and then returning to your typewriter at the end of the day to log it up.

Of course, such a thing would utterly demand a well-written monologue.tsukiyomaru0 wrote:Idea: Film Noir mod for Doom. Just a side thing from the previous page: is it possible to have Oblige generate a map entirely from the command line without opening any GUI? It's like the one big thing I miss from SLIGE...

Never mind that... I was talking more about its textures, rather than its structure. I highly doubt a random generator would come up with something so beautifully designed.Gez wrote:To be fully honest I have serious doubts when I see "Putrefier style maps" and "random map generator" together.
How do I edit those? Is there a tutorial somewhere that can show me how to do this? I'm just a n00b modder, after all...Gez wrote:Anyway OBLIGE is fully customizable, you merely need to edit its config files. You can not only add custom textures, but also custom prefab rooms, custom things, etc.

why not Last Window TC? At least you will have the plot and the dialogue donetsukiyomaru0 wrote:Idea: Film Noir mod for Doom. Your best bet is to ask Glaice for advice and tips about that, he used to make configs for Oblige with added Skulltag resources IIRC.DoomKrakken wrote:How do I edit those? Is there a tutorial somewhere that can show me how to do this? I'm just a n00b modder, after all...

Doom: The (B) Movie
Was trying to remember the last time I watched Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, a purposefully bad movie. So I wondered what Doom would be like as a bad B Movie, in front of and behind the camera. It'd be far too much work, but I liked the idea. Getting hurt (and consequently blood on your costume) detracts from your paycheck, as the wardrobe crew is going to have a fit. Lose all your paycheck and you're fired (game over). DoomGuy sometimes forgets he need to reload the SSG and just keeps firing. The pyrotechnics crew only has the budget for one shot with the BFG, using it again comes out of your paycheck (health). Over the top death sequences (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Gib something, the set crew rushes in and dumps buckets of goo on the floor as the actor walks off, and a poor janitor has to come out and start cleaning up the mess after. Enemies that haven't been alerted yet are just standing around drinking coffee, eating from the buffet table, or smoking. Imps when entering their pain state, the actor drops the head piece and scrambles to pick it back up with their gloved hands and put it back on. Lost souls have strings attached that stretch up into the ceiling. Cacodemons and Pain Elementals are helium filled props that deflate when defeated. Cacodemons start with a pair of arms, but lawyers show up suing for copyright infringement and walk off with the arms. Demons will stop running after a short time, drop it's mask to reveal a panting actor. Barons and Hell Knights are drama queens, running around demanding their bottles of water from terrified interns. The archvile is an actual demon, summoned by the interns. The cyberdemon is a guy on stilts. Taking pain he falls over and the crew has to come out with ladders to prop him back up again. The big brown trees are just cardboard cutouts. Health potions are bottled water, armor bonuses make up kits, armor is replaced by make up crews, and health is your agent with a new contract. Icon of Sin will stop in mid sentence, mumble, then yell out "LINE!?". Instead of the pillar to shoot rockets into the hole, there's an exit door to side that leads to a sound studio with the director berating some poor voice actor. Killing the director makes your the hero to the film crew and you win. Par times are productions costs. If they're too high, the next level you start off with a promotional product to earn the film some sponsor money. IE: Fizzy Pop Cola, and you throw cans at enemies.

How about an Evil Dead mod.
You'd start out, locked in a cabin, as deadites bust their way inside.
I guess after the initial volley, you'd have to go into the basement, there could be a hallucination level, then you'd have to try and escape into the woods, and then come back to the cabin. by this time you have the super shotgun and the chainsaw.
then into Evil Dead II or something where you get your hand cut off and the chainsaw in it's place, thus letting you dual wield the shotgun in one hand and the chainsaw in the other.
Alt fire would be a chainsaw slash, and main fire would be a regular super shotgun blast.
Switching to just the shotgun would have a sprite where you're leveling it on the inactive chainsaw, and otherwise it would function like the regular super shotgun does. Switching to just the chainsaw is pretty straight forward.
Then after the events of Evil Dead 2, culminating in a boss fight with henrietta, you'd move on to Army of Darkness. Which would be the meat of the game obviously. After a certain point, you'd even have the steel fist as a weapon. Maybe some other stuff as well. A crossbow, and a sword maybe. Though I dunno how that would hold up next to the chainsaw.
I think with some very very very clever work, you could even have a car level. As you ride around in that battle-contraption from the end of AoD. It would be a very basic point a to point b level, and the car would drive through a long battlefield, and you'd shoot skeleton deadites and flying deadites along the way. The final level would be the castle siege, where you'd have to fight evil ash. Hell, you could even go further if you wanted and have an S-Mart level as a bonus at the end.

Someone make a Saber Marionette J mod.
like, you start in Japoness, battle Hanagata,
then go to Peterburg, New Texas, and Xi'an,
and then, Infiltrate the Empire of Gartland.
after that... you have a boss battle with the Saber Dolls,
then Faust himself. or Dr. Hess.
The secret level should have Ponta-kuns in it.

Re: ZDoom project ideas you have
Still less of a WIP and more an idea at this point, but I have a more fleshed out idea of an idea I had earlier in this thread;
It's a lot like PillowBlaster's (I believe is their username) Dragoncaster. You are given a variety of weapons, but you are also given a variety of powers that can only be used by manipulating reality around you (to a minor extent). Your weapons range from basic firearms (pistol, shotgun) to unorthodox weaponry (pneumatic rifle, ESD carbine, napalm sniper rifle), and your powers are mostly focused on various forms of lightning and turning things into other things.
Unlike Dragoncaster, I plan on attempting to create maps specifically designed for it.

I might try making a wad that's vaguely similar to Breaking Bad...
Re: ZDoom project ideas you have
Maybe a anti-UAC insurgency mod that takes cue from Equilibrium? You play as a member of a radical religious order that has faced systematic bias from the Company, deciding to take it to them after the moons are engulfed in chaos as a attack of opportunity.
Standing in the Cleric's way is the "Wolfpack" TIER 1 unit, a rather amoral squad of marines who lack any aversion to savage acts. They will kill, they will maim, and they will laugh while doing so.
Beretta 94R "Arditi" modification- Your primary weapon and sidearm, designed for combat at close to mid range. Modifications include a underbarrel laser sight, DIAS to convert the pistol to select fire and a rather effective muzzle brake that vents gases into a cross-like muzzle flash.
HK 480 Commando Carbine- Carried by the elite "Wolfpack" troops, the 480 commando is truly a terrorist's weapon. Meant to be a impersonal weapon for quick and public assassinations of the Company's political enemies, the 480 relies less on bullet penetration than sheer volume of fire with it's four shortened cyclic barrels of doom.
Double-Barreled Shotgun- No manufacturer makes these museum pieces anymore with the rise of the Fifthist Vegan Church of the Holy Mother, so you might be surprised to find one on Mars. However, it seems that even in these dark times, the DBS is still a classic for potential one-man armies.
Capable of loading the crude "Space Biker" 6 Gauge expanding slugs or more conventional mass reactive shot, the Shotgun is for those who prefer to go loud and quick.
Flash Rifle- The "Wolfpack" also carries these heavy Pulsed Energy Rifles, capable of either stunning or maiming a target. Impact for the Flash Rifle is almost instant, increasing the terror it instills in the cowed populace.
Useful for taking out foes from afar, the Flash Rifle nevertheless lacks a certain edge over the heavier units of the Wolfpack who wear specially prepared ceramic armor as a precaution.
BLAST FIELD GUN 20- A ancient prototype that never really got off the ground, the BFG20 is perhaps the most useful weapon to the Cleric. It's sustained rain of plasma shots will undoubtedly put a end to even the toughest Wolfpack units, though it's ammo is uncommon.
