It should. ZDoom's display will be 32 bits which will be the same as windows (If not insert look up "settings" on the desktop properties box and use the bit value it gives you. I suspect that your vid_displaybits value was still 8 which means the display has to be set specifically for ZDoom which could be the reason your capture software is screwing up.
