Brutal doom the ultra fabulous +++@@@!!AASD expansion mod
Ok, when brutal doom first came out 3 or so years back, i loved it. i practically fapped to it, and i still play the original. everyone liked it, it was a popular mod, yada yada yada. but ever since sarge got dishonorably discharged from the zdoom forums, everyone's popped in with their own brand of BD. i'm not gonna name names, but i really think this should stop, not just because its cheap as hell using someone else's mod as a base and leaving almost everything unchanged, but i'm tired of it. I officially am sick of brutal doom!
Is anyone else sick of this?
on another note, alot of people are using WW-doomnukem as a base? whats with all these mods?
PS
I dont hate all of these mods, but most of them. rga2 BD:SE was really good, and the SE, or the very first mod that simply cleans it up a bit.

But SergeantMarkIV used other peoples' mods to create his so where's the difference?
What could be a handy is a post listing all the variants with a summary of differences rather than lots of random threads all over the place.

All I'm sick of is the drama surrounding Brutal Doom. It's just a Doom mod; a good one, granted, but that's it. I really don't get all the ancillary fuss and fighting over it. This thread is part of that.
I dunno, go outside or something.

Much agreed. What is done, is done. It's over.Enjay wrote:All I'm sick of is the drama surrounding Brutal Doom. It's just a Doom mod; a good one, granted, but that's it. I really don't get all the ancillary fuss and fighting over it. This thread is part of that.

Well, bear in mind that ww-doomnukem itself was based on DN's own patch for brutal doom, so unless said mods are actually taking my code or if the author has not asked DN's permission to use the graphics, there isn't a lot stopping them.Crudux Cruo wrote:

Oh i get that people ask permission and all that jazz, it just is irritating, and i guess I'm just sick of it. "going outside" and "having a life" (apart from actually doing all the above) doesn't change how saturated the forums now are with that, and what made this stuff original was; to that end, i consider ww-doomnukem totally different, as well as the RGA2 mod in that there is very little left of brutal doom in it. they have managed to make themselves different.
What's chapping my ass is just how Unoriginal all these mods are, being based on other peoples mods. Tormentor sorta echoed how i've felt in that original content is hard to come by nowadays. of course, i've been slowely plugging away at an original mod of my own, and i guess that's why its irritating to me.

Despite the controversy surrounding Brutal Doom and its author, there is no denying that the mod has seen a success in this community like no other. Lots of people love this mod, and it's kind of normal to see mods that are based on it (regardless of how big or small the changes are from the original mod), especially with the original author being "exiled" and the mod being finished. The thing is, we don't have the right to tell people to stop uploading Brutal Doom-based mods or any mods for that matter; the mod is free to edited, and its resources are free to be (re)used.

I don't quite like the mod due to the way I myself play doom, but I can understand why people like it. The mods it has spawned are all quite great imo.
Sperglord Edition is damn nice, I've been playing it since the first version sometime back in.. 2011? 2012? when it was still just "some guy's personal mod of brutal doom posted on some dumb imageboard".

I say Brutal Doom mods are no different from Samsara character addons or amv2k9 's PMSX addon. People mod for themselves, as their hobby, so let them mod what they will.
Re: Brutal doom the ultra fabulous +++@@@!!AASD expansion mo
it's actually fun to see people wasting his times doing flame war for a mod that someguy wanted to make as hobby and without receiving no money and even need to listen so many things about something he didn't even received a U$1?
I think people are crazy, really, there're alot of other mods around and you waste your time trying to make people not to play a X mod?
If I was on the mod creator position I would be mad, maybe banned by attacking that kind of fanhater lol

Well, Sgt. Mark IV was being a scumbag, and I thought he deserved that.
That said, I'm still fine with Brutal Doom and fan addons, and I agree that trying to get people to stop playing and modding it because "it's overrated " is stupid. I'll repeat what I said last time: people mod as a hobby, let them mod what they want.

I think that personally anyone can mod whatever they want, but people should really try to make their own mods and use their immagination instead of making "expansions" of an already finely crafted experience
