Those who browse the project page...
Anyone else wondering if it might be a good idea to shovel the mods modding or based on Brutal Doom into their own subforum, or to require [Brutal Doom] as a tag on such projects?
I'll admit BD got me back into modding after a decade of Wikipedia editing when I saw what Decorate can do (and easily). I'll load BD if I'm not loading any other weapon or enemy mods. But it's not the default game nor any sort of official update, the submods are starting to clutter up the place, and too many of the submods (I'll be nice and not name names) are rooted in a lack of creativity and any sound aesthetic judgement (this coming from someone who considers gas station chili-dogs and a TV broadcast of some Pauly Shore movie to be a pleasant evening). About a quarter of the threads on the first page of the projects section are mods based on Brutal Doom. There's fewer non-Doom mods on the first page then there are Brutal Doom mods. I'll grant the second page is better, but it's starting to gather projects like it's its own game; it's cluttering the place.
Shoving them all off into a subforum wouldn't have to glorify the mod for those who don't care for/about such mods (but rather get it out of their way), and it wouldn't be some sort of ghetto for those who do care about such mods (but rather a place to focus on them).
(However, I can understand keeping the project threads for Doom, Heretic, Hexen, and Strife all in the same forum instead of subforum, because there's cross-compatible and cross-interest mods.)

It's just a mod, it doesn't need special treatment.

With the recent [classified information] of Sargeant Mark IV, you'll end up seeing less and less of Brutal Doom related mods. Much like a year ago, everything was Dub-step. Now that has dwindled away.
But hey. Since Sargeant Mark IV has been [classified information], does that mean we'll stop seeing more [classified information]? Hrm. I have to ask Mikuru Asahina more about these [classified information] regarding Sargeant Mark IV.

And just in case you all didn't get the message the last few times I've said it, yes, Sarge is banned permanently. No, he will not be coming back. No, Brutal Doom is not a taboo subject, and it does not require a special sub-forum, because that would only encourage more Brutal Doom mods-of-mods and stuff like the Drspam episode.

I was going to naively suggest that Sarge is perfectly capable of making his own website, forum, and community... but then I remembered that we get enough people here asking Zandronum/Skulltag specific questions.

There are many people who don't like Brutal Doom and those are the same people that keep bringing it up obsessively- they make videos about it and post about it (present company excluded). No publicity is bad publicity. Everyone is silly. If people would rather not see it or hear about it they should just not speak about it.

More Brutal Doom fuss. It's a good mod. It's a very good mod and very popular - whether you like it or not. But, really, people getting so worked up over it (one way or the other) with "hater" communities, counter-haters all all the other bullshit? It's just fucking stupid. There has to be something more worthwhile getting so worked up about. Stoopid Internet.
Other than the occasional annoyance of someone claiming that (G)ZDoom isn't doing something they want it to do and only after about 6 posts into the thread is it revealed that they were also running the game with BD loaded* there really isn't that much BD traffic in the way of new threads. I really don't think that there are enough live BD-based projects to make a sub forum necessary or even particularly desirable.
*also applies to posts where people complain that something isn't working but omit the crucial information that they are using Skulltag or Zandronum.

Pretty sure you meant drspam. There hasn't been a drfrag episode in years.wildweasel wrote:and stuff like the Drfrag episode.

Re: Those who browse the project page...
I, for one, am sick to death of this whole "Brutal Doom and its author" argument that's been going on for ages now. And I wish I never see threads where the subject revolves around Brutal Doom or its author (project threads are excluded from this), as nothing good comes out of them usually. All you get is the usual and pointless bickering between both parties, which I'm sure we all had enough of already!
As far as I'm concerned, the "Mark and Brutal Doom" chapter is over on these forums; the project's thread has been locked, and the author has been banned with no chance of returning. So, can we just move on and leave that behind us, please?

I agreed with you Blue Shadow.
To be honest did not know that sgtmark 12 had a dark side.
with respect to what I read say it is: racist, sexist etc.
But i dont know if that is true.
