I agree, fun experiment, isn't that what DOOM editing is supposed to be about anyhow? To hell with logic!

Talking about experimenting with 3D floors.
At the end of 2005, solarsnowfall did a similar thing but with a vertical orientation in mind.
May be of interest to some.

The GL rendering code isn't exactly efficient. If you're faced with whipping up a custom texture, and using this 3D floor technique... Pick the texture every time.
