You guys should try to be more constructive.
I'd like to know what you think about heretic deathmatch, and if
you dislike it you could tell me why.

By the way at Computer&Videogames someone wrote:

Why not? You're not even stating how it sucks or not even helping to contribute to the project, to remove the reason why it "sucks". Do something more productive than being "The Critic". It's GPL, if you don't like it, then contribute or make it yourself. kthx

The maps suck (boring architecture), the monsters suck (cheap unoriginal sprites), the textures suck (mostly poorly detailed ones and flat ripp offs from the original Doom flats used for the walls...) and the music sucks (well, it's hard to find a wad with decent music anyways, so no big point here). All I can say for the good is that weapons are quite adictive to fire and sounds ain't that bad.

Contribute to that trash?, no way, even if I could, I wouldn't waste my time.

I find Freedoom pretty messy when compared to other Doom engine games. There's no consistent theme of the wad, it's like they wanted to replace everything in Doom with the first stuff that popped in their heads. Some stuff is actually pretty good, some textures are nice, but most are quite awkward in their looks-this is also because of their colours-most are very highly saturated. Original Doom proved that You can do low saturated graphics that look decently realistic with the pallette.
Some sprites look quite horrible. Even the demon replacement by Scuba, altough looks more funny that scary, is a good work, but the cacodemon and snake imp are just not hellish enough. The zombies are great, so goes for Mancubuses and new player. Some, especially decoration sprites look so bad that It puzzles me why they are still there. The helmets look bland (bon2) the electric replacing torches really don't seem appealing to me (tred, tblu, tgrn) the small torches' flames look really unrealistic, in the bad way.. (smbt, smgt, smrt)
The maps are a bundle of realistic and non realistic maps. Sorry folks, that just doesn't appeal to me. Some maps attempt to mimc American McGee's style (let me remind You that his maps use a very small variety of textures) like Boris's maps- 02 and 22 that have a couple texture troughout the level.
The music I found both-good and bad. Some tunes really appear as non-fitting in Doom for me (map 05, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 26, 30) yet some of them (especially the remixes of the original tunes really sound like the tense "Doom Remixed!": 01, 07, 10, 16, 20, 28, 31). Overall it's nice someone attempts a free version of Doom, but it has some things that could be improved, but I doubt will be.... Only my opinion tough.

I don't think it's so much the "lack of consistence" of the FreeDoom WAD as it is the anoying cartoonish graphics. The sprites for the "blob monsters" really piss me off. So much so that I even get headaches a short while after playing FreeDoom....

Oh the heresy.
Ahem, what's with them? They don't look that cartoonish to me. It's their colours that suck-too much hi-saturated colors that makes them sorta what I call 16-color alike.
No offense, but I hate when someone says "cartoonish" Whaddya mean?!

Well hate it or love it, they're cartoonish, meaning that their level of realism (or lack-there-of) is nacceptable for people looking to replace Doom's semi-realistic monsters of 1993 with equally semi-realistic (if not more realistic) monstes, rather than stupid-looking blobs with outlines and one-shade fill colors....

Post a picture of this sprite You call an outlined, single color filled blob.
Still You did not explain what makes them look cartoonish, You only claimed there are people who don't like them which is in this case stating the obvious-we know we-graphs (not Graf Zahls! Graphic artist >:( )-cannot satisfy everyone.

Yes but I was just implying that the "cartoonish" look is less to people's taste than other, more normal looking, more realistic monsters/sprites.... I understand that not everyone can be satisfied by one style through one medium but I wish people would at least make recreations that pay homage to the origials a bit more, and say closer to the roots, as mch as they have to be different in the case of something like FreeDoom.... I mean I like FreeHeretic's Weapon #1 recreation better than FreeDoom's Weapon #1 recreation, for example....

To understand why it does so others don't make such mistakes.
Or to simply explain why it does.
Please extend Your opinion, otherwise it's an "one-line" ATM.

Well, if you (Doom) feel that it sucks ass then there's no point in even bothering to argue over it. Anyway I think if more people cared about this then it wouldn't "suck" as much (if that's what it does in it's current state). But as it is, people prefer to just steal Doom and Doom 2 IWADs (or IWADs from other Doom-based games) and using them (because they're full-version and complete) instead of FreeDoom or FreeHeretic or whatever....
