About sided weapons and projectiles.
I've seem lots of mods with sided weapons that have projectile attacks, and the result looks very fine. Last night I tried to make one, but it looks just weird. Its like the gun faces a direction and the projectiles goes to another. What are the tricks to make a good sided weapon that shoots visible projectiles? The weapon sprites position? The projectiles sprites? I just could not figure out.

The spawnofs_horiz parameter; it adjusts where the projectile is spawned relative to the firer.
Re: About sided weapons and projectiles.
Thanks, gonna try that.

Personally I don't have a problem with an angled weapon firing a centered projectile. It makes firing around corners much less of a nightmare, and doesn't look all that weird.
(If it does, I think there's something wrong with your weapon sprites.

Re: About sided weapons and projectiles.
Projectiles are just another good argument against sided weapons.

Re: About sided weapons and projectiles.
Ah, I'm using an edited versions of this:

I've made the sprite 'taller' in the hud, and changed the offsets a bit; It's much better now, but it is still a little odd. I think I'll make them invisible. I've used projectiles instead of hitscan because I wanted they to be ripper if hitting targets in close range and not ripper if at distances.

Ah, but they looks a lot better, imo. I just cant feel good with centered sprites. :SEnjay wrote:Projectiles are just another good argument against sided weapons.

I'm sure Scuba Steve would be happy with you using sprites you don't have permission to use.Ravick wrote:

That doesn't matter unless he releases the mod.
Re: About sided weapons and projectiles.
Actually, I'm making it in my 'training wad', it is not in my WIP. I just showed the image because it was said that the problem could be the sprites.
I've been wanting to add it, no doubt, but do not know if it matches the style of the rest of the wad. Anyway, CaptainToenail's autogun the "machinegun" in the mod, if I add this rifle, there might be some new gameplay function, I mean, to avoid redundancy.
I should have asked permission to Scuba, no doubt, but I ended up not doing it yet. I'm gonna do now then ...

In topic, I just can't make it looks fine :S I think I'll give up.

If you already tried the spawnofs_horiz parameter, and tweaked stuff, why dont you take an screenshot, with crosshair on and post it here? Im thinking weapon offsets is what might make it look odd.

To be fair, I have always said people can use anything I have drawn for Doom as long as they just say they used my work. No "permission" needed.

Oh. For some reason I thought I recalled you saying people couldn't use the weapons you made for twilight warrior. It was on your old weapon website.Scuba Steve wrote:To be fair, I have always said people can use anything I have drawn for Doom as long as they just say they used my work. No "permission" needed.

Hum... I will make a short video of it so. But it will only be possible at the weekend (DBThanatos wrote:If you already tried the spawnofs_horiz parameter, and tweaked stuff, why dont you take an screenshot, with crosshair on and post it here? I tried many positions for the gun, but I can't avoid the feeling that the projectiles are going in another direction.

Hmmm, probably. But that was 12 years ago... I think Black Shadow would be OK with the sprites being open for use todaychopkinsca wrote:Oh. For some reason I thought I recalled you saying people couldn't use the weapons you made for twilight warrior. It was on your old weapon website.
