Machinama
Okay, I was thinking about using a video camera to shoot, um... and then I thought of ZDooM. And them I remembered something I read about, Machinama.
Has anyone made a Machinama? (Machinama: Movie made with computer animation) Like a movie made with ACS or a demo recording in ZdooM?

I've seen one very short ZDooM movie and it was crappy and buggy as hell because the monsters in the demo had default behaviour and weren't scripted, so they'd so something dumb and the "movie" would all of a suden get stuck, so you'd have to start watching all oevr again hoping that the same thing wouldn't happen again. But I admit that if it were done well it would be good. In fact after playing "Helm's Deep" by Cyb I wanted to see a remake of the LOTR trilogy using a very-advanced future version of ZDoomGL. I'm still waiting for it!

This could be made better if someone made higher res sprites of the doom monsters and made their mouths move... you could also do close ups of the faces
. Actually, taken from the ideas of Silent Hill 2 (They use higher res models for film sequences, so it looks like it's in game, but it's not
) you coud jus have High res spriutes for movies... with deceny decorate, good scripting, ingeneouse art work and good voice talent then you could make a pritty damn good film (even add miscelaneouse animations as kicking, laughing, waving, vareouse other gestures... would be pritty cool and I'm sure these aditional anims would be too hard
).
I have so many good ideas, it's just a shame that I'm too lazy to actually carry any of them out... I bet I could just resize the doom playere amd smoothen him out with a few filyters... then add the detail to the talking and stuff... wouldn't be required for marines with helmets...
Now you mention it, I'd love to see this idea put to good use
. Maybe we can get together andcreate the sprites, with the sprtites done, and to a good standard (gestures, facial expressions and stuff) then i'd be happy to work on level that puts them to good use... I'd maybe even do the voice acting...

Indeed it was! (Awesome!). But one of the things that I didn't like about it was the extreme lagginess. I mean all those black imps and a map that big, what do you expect?!Adrian wrote:Yeah, Cyb's Helms Deep was awesome!
the only thing is that the castle walls are so high that the marines can't fire at the demons unless they get on the bridge and die. XD
Now that this topic exists, someone may have started.

BTW I'd kill for a LOTR TC for ZDoomGL (as I already mentioned somewhere else).
Doing Machinema with Doom would be cool. I'm sure plenty of people would have lots of fun with it etc etc etc and I'm sure people could turn out some amazing stuff. However, let's be honest even some well drawn sprites going from node to node, pausing for a bit and them moving on are going to fall a long way short of being anything like as impressive as the engines usually used to create Machinema.
Still, this community thrives on making a very old game do what many modern games do and usually ends up being more fun than those n00b games, so maybe...

Have you tried playing the map on Nightmare?geedougg wrote:Indeed it was! (Awesome!). But one of the things that I didn't like about it was the extreme lagginess. I mean all those black imps and a map that big, what do you expect?!Adrian wrote:Yeah, Cyb's Helms Deep was awesome!

LOL! No and I'm not even going to! Not until I get a super-computer anyway!
I think I tried the map in ITYTD and it was like 10FPS at best. Damn I don't know why it was so slow but it sure WAS SLOW!

Is it currently possible to be able to make a sprite go on a specific path, go to a point, shoot at another point, hit another enemie that is set to go on a path that is hit by rocket?
Also, is it possible to look like a thing changes its sprite?
Lastly: Please post links to any machinamas for zdoom here!

Yes, with scripting.Agent ME wrote:Is it currently possible to be able to make a sprite go on a specific path, go to a point, shoot at another point, hit another enemie that is set to go on a path that is hit by rocket?
What exactly do you mean?Agent ME wrote:Also, is it possible to look like a thing changes its sprite?
You fellas are forgetting about Imp Encounter...
But it would be pure fun to make at least a few scenes of a so-called Doom movie using Zdoom engine. Something like a very long Cutscene? Just add Music that will change from scene to scene and digitalized speech. Now, that's something ZDoom community has never seen before...Enjay wrote:However, let's be honest even some well drawn sprites going from node to node, pausing for a bit and them moving on are going to fall a long way short of being anything like as impressive as the engines usually used to create Machinema.
