Hi! I would like to introduce you my altered items pack:

What's new:

Shotgun and shells
Shotgun and shells

Radiation Suit and Marine size comparision
Radiation Suit and Marine size comparision

Requirements:
Skulltag's st_hi-res.pk3 (loaded before items.pk3) and GZDoom (probably will work on Skulltag as well, untested).

Some stuff from Spriters Resource was used as a base.
Consider this to be version 1.0, but no future releases are planned.

There's no additional detail to these sprites. The stock on the shotgun actually somehow looks worse than default...

You've literally just sized these up and filtered them. Bravo.

Although he did smooth up the front of the shotty, but didn't seem to work whatsoever on the backside.

Nope, I didn't.

You're correct. I never stated that all the sprites included in this release are super duper Hi-Res. I just said there are some altered items in this pack, which all of you can clearly see on screenshots. If you don't like it - don't use it. Simple.

As for the sprites:
-Shotty is the same as in Skulltag's HiRes (so "Bravo" for it's Author, Zero X. Diamond  ) I just added the stock without any filtering, editing etc.
-Shells are not "just sized these up and filtered" as this wouldn't improve the quality this much
-RadSuit is no HiRes - it's just an alternation of low res suit and marine helmet
-Invuln. is made of Doom Alpha's Lost Soul's frames.

The thread title has Hi-Res right in it. You can't claim it doesn't say it when it's literally in the title.

This is always a weak excuse. I've noticed that this phrase comes up a lot in other modding communities (e.g. Skyrim, Fallout: New Vegas, etc.) when somebody makes something creepy and weird (e.g. little girls, prostitution mods, etc.) that most regular people are going to object to. It's generally a sign of having really weak skin and thus not being able to take any sort of criticism. Basically, "If you don't like it, don't use it" translates to "I did a bad job and I don't care and you're dumb for questioning me."

If you don't like it - don't use it. Simple.
I downloaded it and used it with the curiosity of checking it out. I did not like it, ergo I will not use it. Simple as that.
That's not a defense, that's the logical and reasonable progression of events. If someone doesn't like a mod, there's not much of a chance they'll keep it on their harddrive aside from sheer novelty value (which I do with a lot of other mods), but rather will instead either delete it or simply not play it. Or perhaps they opt not to download it in the first place, disliking it based off of the information that you give them, in which case they will never download it and not use it in the first place.
Perfect for playing the mod.
Not so much for a public forum.

If we don't like it, we quite likely will not use it--but this is a forum where people are allowed to express their projects, express their thoughts on their projects, and express their thoughts on other's thoughts on projects.
If someone doesn't like it, and ergo doesn't use it, they are allowed to say why they didn't like it. Whether or not they continue to use it or stopped using it (reflecting their respective status of like/dislike it) holds no bearing on their ability or permission to comment on it.
If you don't like it--don't read or respond to 'em. Simple.

The radiation shielding suit in general looks more like clean-room outfit. Something to protect objects from you.

My experience with this:
Spoiler:
You need to get rid of the dependency of st_hi-res.zip. I know this is an addon, but this shouldn't require it to even work. Also, when it says "hi-res", I would expect most (if not all) of the graphics in the file to be hi-res. Only 2 of the 7 graphics could be considered hi-res, and one of them just looks bad. Overall, this work shows a lack of effort.

Thanks for you posts, guys, I'll try to answer all of them:
The thread title has Hi-Res right in it. You can't claim it doesn't say it when it's literally in the title.
Yep. it does. But if you'll read it really close you'll notice that the title is composed of two parts: "Skulltag's Hi-Res Items" (orginal Skulltags mod name, with which I cannot do a thing about) and "Bonus Pack" - my name for a pack of some simple alternations (not necessarily hi-res).
It's no excuse, just a pure, simple fact. I don't really care about "other forum's statistics" - I'm myself not a mass of people. The comparision with "little girls and prostitution" is.. no I will not comment this, anyone can clearly see. You seem to be a good psychoanalist.. not. I don't really care about how you translate words of others - it's you business, but no constructive criticism is dumb if you ask me. When I explain something I want others to understand my point of view, not to call them idiots (dumb etc).
I downloaded it and used it with the curiosity of checking it out. I did not like it, ergo I will not use it. Simple as that.

Agreed. The thing is.. I don't really care for how long the mod will be popular etc. The only reason why I took an effort (not big, but effort) to release it was: "Hey, why not? It took me a few minutes to made, I enjoy it, why not share with others?".
If we don't like it, we quite likely will not use it--but this is a forum where people are allowed to express their projects, express their thoughts on their projects, and express their thoughts on other's thoughts on projects.

My answer is: if you downloaded in and enjoy it - makes me happy. If you don't like it - sorry to disappoint you.
I absolutely agree for what you said about the freedom of speech and would like to answer with a quote: "I disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" Voltaire. That's why I answer to your posts.

Personally I use st_hi-res.pk3 always, so I don't care about items.pk3 not rely on it.
You said the "work shows lack of effort". Well I can agree with that.. or not. That depends upon your expectations:
-if you expected a "project" with some revised plan, release date, readme, tweaked and tuned - I absolutely agree!
-if you'll take into consideration the whole thing was made some hours after the midnight, with the laptop lying on my knees in the dark room where was almost no light source (my GF was sleeping) exept the screen, when I took just minutes from idea to execution, and was made just "for fun, as a proof of concept", then perhaps your verdict will be different. In this case - I disagree.

And to be honest with you all: I think items.pk3 doesn't even need to be hi-res (maybe exept shotgun's stock) since there are resize options available in G/ZDoom. I use st_hi-res.pk3 only becouse they've hi-res letters on ammo boxes. All the other stuff (like radsuits) look perfectly well as resized low-res items (IMHO).

So why add a space marine helmet to the rad suit when doomguy already has a helmet? It doesn't look right on the sprite, and it's redundant. It'd make more sense to have a gasmask or something that goes over the helmet, and it would look better to boot.

Can someone post a side by side comparison of Zaero's sprites next to the Skulltag hi-res official pickups addon?

Alright, here goes:

DoomJedi vs. "Improvement"

And here's the big killer:

We're talking "high resolution" here, not standard, like your invulnerability "sphere" there, and the radsuit.

st_hi_res.zip
I'd consider this a little bonus pack.

It's from back when I started spriting a bit. Includes hires imp balls, blood and bullet puffs.

Becouse I could and wanted to, that's why.

Who called it an "improvement"? I used phrase "altered items".

I don't care what you are talking about, since you don't listen to me. I've explained clearly why the stuff looks the way it looks and I'm just too tired to do this all over again. I've the same right to release the stuff I've made, as you have to criticise it, but please quit the mantra of comments which were already posted by many and answered already. It's just a waste of space.

Sometimes I think I'm speaking to the wall..
