[Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
For Sam's Adventure, I'm going to have something called the "Lazer-Sword" (basically a lightsaber ripoff), and I'm currently using lightsaber sounds, but I don't want to for two reasons: copyright issues, and I want this to be a little more unique. I've already attempted making original sounds, and failed miserably. (they sucked. BADLY.) It'd be nice if someone could point me to some sounds that would work well for a lightsaberish weapon.
If anyone would like to make sounds for me, I need a turn on sound (for being raised), an idle hum, a turn off sound (for being lowered), a swing sound, and a hit sound.

Re: [Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
I think there was some in Daniel's weapons.
Re: [Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
Would a synth instrument further processed make a viable lightsaber hum?
I guess you can use modified steam noise for the lightsaber impact sound.

plastic wrap/ ballon for the hits...place an ipod or something nect to your computer speaker( or do something like that near a speaker) for the hum...edit it all in whatever audio program you can find.
Re: [Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
You could also stand on your roof during a thunder storm and record the sounds with with an ipod.
I'll be trying this next week....

Note for the wise: just because it's April Fools' Day does not entitle you to be a smart-ass.
Re: [Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
Minus the "you stand on the roof", the suggestion sounds interesting (provided the iPod doesn't destroy itself in the rain). You get quite a large variety of random powerful noises this way.

Weasel didn't take me seriously once again....

And you're bumping this thread to complain about it?Tragos wrote:Weasel didn't take me seriously once again....

I think he was making a joke, Weaselboy.
Besides, the post above him was the one that bumped the thread.

LOL
If you really would like to make lighting sounds, hitting a piece of thin metal with a sledge hammer is the classic method. I think you have to stand it up somehow before hitting it, so don't lay it flat.

Re: [Request] Lightsaber-like sounds
The old-timey radio method is to actually take a piece of sheet metal and whip it around. The sound of it wobbling (assuming it's large and thin enough) generally produces convincing distant rumbling thunder.

Worst case scenario, it at least ends up sounding like a metallic Zoidberg.wildweasel wrote:The old-timey radio method is to actually take a piece of sheet metal and whip it around.
