Not to sound mean but...
For lords sake just PM the Author instead of bumping the topic to the top of the list again :melancholy:

I don't mean to necropost, but this seemed like the best possible place to ask this. I just downloaded the latest version of GZDoom, and whenever I try to load LOS, all I get is a "could not set mixing format" error, a few dynamic lighting errors and a "very fatal error" that causes GZDoom to crash even before the title screen appears (something about an "access violation".) If anyone has any idea why this is happening or any suggestions on how to fix it, I would be extremely grateful.

I can't find a better place for this, since the author's (?) forum is in Portuguese, so here I am.

I'm having technical difficulties with LOS. In particular, I seem to be missing textures. They're not displaying, anyway. I'm using the latest GZDoom release (1.5.06 or whatever it is) and have tried fiddling with various display/OpenGL settings to no avail.

Things I've noticed missing include railings (?), floors (probably something you can see through, like grating), grates/vents (I clearly had to kick one open at the end of a vent, but it was invisible), and various decorations (shelves and beds?). Also, a few things (e.g. boot decals when I kick a wall) look a little ugly. Given the high visual quality of the mod, I figure they're probably supposed to look much nicer.

I run the mod by dragging LOS.pk3 onto the GZDoom executable. It's worked for other wads, and judging from various forum posts, I'm pretty sure that's what I should be doing.

And now for some illustrative screenshots (lighting provided by PowerTorch):

1. The room just behind where you start the mod. Note feet for what I assume is a bed. Also some black textures on the walls. On the right there's an invisible shelf or something that held a shotgun and such.

2. The hallway you start in. That black pit to the left of the ramp seems to have an invisible rail or grating or something. Also, in the darkness it's not so noticeable, but that bloody wall at the end of the hall looks a little off. Is it supposed to look like that?

3. At the far end of that hall, where it turns. Some flooring is clearly missing in this room (and many others).

4. Surely these bootprints shouldn't have that ugly box around them.

5. Error messages when loading the wad. Relevant?

I should note that I haven't had any trouble with the dozen or so wads I've played so far (been playing my way through the Cacowards). Well, a little bit actually, but mostly the occasional door that refuses to open when it clearly should.

Does anyone have a clue what I'm missing or doing wrong? I love LOS's atmosphere and would love to continue playing, but it's all but unplayable in some areas when I can't see the damned walkways.

In retrospect, this might be better placed in the GZDoom forum, but I'll try here first anyway. :P

This is all indicative of GZDoom not actually running in OpenGL mode. What video card does your system have?

Oh my. I had no idea that LOS would look so ugly without all the darkness in it.

The lack of 3D floors doesn't help, either.

This.

I originally had ZDoom then dropped GZDoom in the same directory, but it kept my old INI. So I backed it up and let GZDoom generate a new one so I could compare the two. Apparently vid_renderer (which cannot be set by in-game options, it seems) was set to 0, so it wasn't actually using OpenGL. Problem solved. Everything looks gorgeous now (yes, even without all the darkness).

I never would have guessed that was the problem. You, sir, deserve a cookie. :)

Wait, you LIKE having the light level racked up so absurdly high?

Nope. My point was that the ugliness was entirely the fault of the software renderer, which, little did I realize, I was using.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but this won a Cacoward, you gotta expect people to come back to it.
I have just played through LOS and ... I'm in the special stage (LOSMAP09). I have killed the three barons in the candle hall and have gone into the room with the fake wall, Pain Elemental and Revenant. 3 bars have shut behind me, trapping me inside. The only other path leads to a cliff into the abyss... what do I do next?
