I`m not sure if this is the right place to make this request. I was looking for a ZDoom port for Gp2x Wiz. There is one for the older gp2x, and a PrDoom port for the Wiz, which is a very inferior Doom engine that can´t handle most of the mods for this game.
I was looking forward to the release of Ginge, a gp2x wrapper for the wiz, which was suppose to make work ZDoom in Wiz, but it never did. Anyway, does somebody know who can make this port come true? There are many wiz´s users waiting for this great program since the console appeared.
Thank you and goodbye.
ZDoom port for gp2x Wiz?
Re: ZDoom port for gp2x Wiz?
I don't think it's possible because ZDoom uses FMOD Ex for sound playback and this library does not support this platform. (FMOD Ex exists for Linux, but for an x86 build of Linux, not for an ARM build of it.)
Porting ZDoom to that architecture would therefore require removing sound support entirely, or replacing it with another library.
Also, I don't think any of the developers have a GP2X Wiz so they couldn't do the port to that platform even if they wanted.

Thank you for your reply. At least now i know why there is no port yet.

Yeah, I similarly was hoping for an ARM version for my Dingoo A320 and possible future smartbook. fmod is a real let down in that department...
Re: ZDoom port for gp2x Wiz?
I've never even heard of the gp2x before.

Honestly with the way FMOD is set up (among other things), it seems unlikely that ZDoom will get a port to a non-computer system until somebody does something about the platform-dependent stuff. =P

Or until someone has enough money to pay all the license fees required to put a game that uses ZDoom on an iOS device.

Re: ZDoom port for gp2x Wiz?
I kinda missed the OP's statement of there being a GP32X port already: it can be found here. Apparently based on v2.2.0, this port features an SDL sound renderer, "so sound and music should be supported in all games."Gez wrote:I don't think it's possible because ZDoom uses FMOD Ex for sound playback and this library does not support this platform. I wonder why people like this Adventus did not choose to post here. It's possible parts of the changes they made to port ZDoom to these platforms could have been integrated in the trunk.
