TEXTURES editing

Post by ler »

Are there any existing tools that can edit the TEXTURES lump as something besides text? I'm looking for a visual editor, essentially.

Also, silly clarification: since regular patch-made textures work on floors, any crazy rotated patches and such textures should work on floors as well, right? I don't see why they wouldn't, but I'd rather ask.

Finally, is there any way to convert a TEXTUREx lump into the TEXTURES format?

Sorry, no. Someone needs to write one. :( But you can edit a dummy TEXTUREx in XWE and copy the coordinates down in TEXTURES, I do this a lot.

Absolutely!

Manually. Keep in mind that you need not define single-patch textures. Just put them in a textures folder (for PK3) or between TX_ markers (for a WAD).

TEXTURES editing is planned for SLADE3. Planned. It's not in at the moment.

Ugh. I hope this changes quick, I'm not really a fan of just manually doing junk like that. Plus, you can't visually do anything of the scaling or rotating.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Technically UDMF can do texture scaling as needed. :P

Er, not PATCH scaling. Which is what we're talking about. And patch rotation, too.

Patches can't be scaled AFAIK.

Patches can't be scaled. Only the final result. As for rotation, your constricted to 90 degree rotations, which makes stuff simpler.

If you really need a visual aid make rotated/flipped patches as needed and edit them all together in a dummy TEXTUREx lump, then copy the code down into TEXTURES. It's not that difficult, son.

Don't be condescending, it's a valid request. Besides, manually copying and pasting values from a different editor is way too ghetto for my tastes, so I'd prefer another solution.

Also I forgot that patches couldn't scaled :P.

I'm not being condescending. Also, "too ghetto"? Bawwwww. There's no visual editors for TEXTURES yet. I gave you a perfectly viable solution besides blindly stumbling through it. If you don't like suggestions, don't ask for help.

You're not going to get much help if you're going to be an asshole.
