I have a nice, super fast, top of the line macine(for about 1998! :P). Since you will ask me anyways...
P2 350mgz
128 mbg ram
Can't remember the exact name of my video card, but it sucks anyways :P
A Sound Blaster card, but see above.
10 GB harddrive
A decent keyboard
A horrid mouse
A monitor :P

60GB Maxtor 5400RPM -> 120GB Maxtor 7200RPM
120GB 7200rpm would mean much slower hd. The hd I got from an old pc of my unc (a 3gb Seagate hd) is 3x faster than my 20GB seagate barracuda.

Yeah, right, so, will my spec run Doom3?

It would be nice if people actually did answered my posts :D.

80meg hard drive of some form :D
ATI Radeon 9200
DMX Terretec 6fire sound card (I always think tha'ts bit of a mouthful, but that is no problem because it's a fucking good sound card! :D).
A motherboard :D.
Yes, that'll run it fairly well. You do need more RAM though. (1.2GB should be plenty. :P)

That's interesting. I was going to go for a SATA drive since my mobo supports them, but from what I read the price difference isn't worth it and there's hardly any speed gain over 7200RPM ATA133 so I just stuck with that. I have my hard drive here sitting and waiting for my vid card to ship, so I suppose I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah, damnit. I concur. Wasn't Doom Millenium supposed to be released before we saw Doom 3? Well it'd better be released before August 3rd, or else.... (Or else I'll cry or something.).

What the hell is Doom Millenium? AFAIK, id stated "Yeah, we'll probably do something with Doom for the millenium." and then didn't follow through. Not surprising as this quote was in '99 and they were busy working on a completely unrelated game at the time. How do you take that line and get "We're going to make Doom Millenium before we do anything else evar!!111"?

Lexus is right. It is a project headed up by Lüt (Steve Dudzik). I'm not sure what, if anything, is happening with it now. Hopefully something because it was going to be quite an impressive mod. A custom engine with some very cool additional enemies (totally new graphics and very good ones at that) and weapons and an a whole bunch of other stuff, not to mention some very complex levels. I have heard nothing about it for months now (although I haven't been very active on the Doomworld forums for some time either). There used to be a non-doomworld private forum for people involved, but it disappeared ages ago.

[edit]Just checked the current forum and the project is still quite live, so it's something to look forward to.[/edit]

Heh, best answer right there. :)

Anyway, I've just been looking around a few other forums that I sometimes visit. It was interesting reading a thread over on the Ion Storm forums. Over there, the Doom3 announcement was given a luke warm response to say the least. Some people were enthusiastic but most were like "yeah, whatever", "I'll wait 'til it comes out", "graphics will be good but the game will suck", "id only make engines, their games are nothing special", "I've seen nothing ground breaking so far except the pretty pictures" etc etc

Quite different to here and other Doom related forums eh?

Well, those are just Ion Storm fans. Why the hell would they care about Doom3? :P

All right, PCGamer came today and had an exclusive review of Doom3 (It got a 94%, I have no idea how they got a hold of it before going to press) and a separate hardware section dedicated to what it takes to run it.

In a nutshell

Low End: 1.5Ghz P4/AMD
512 MB RAM
NVidia Geforce Ti 4800/ATI Radeon 9500

Mid Range: 2.4Ghz CPU
1 GB RAM
NV GF 5950/ATI RAD 9800 Pro/XT

High End: 3.4Ghz CPU
2GB RAM
NV GF 6800/ATI RAD X800 XT

Note on the high end they say this is not final as Doom3 is supposed to keep looking even better on hardware that's not even out yet!

Also, minimum requirements were 1.5Ghz Geforce 4MX, and 384MB RAM, but will probably have trouble running. In general the thing they recommended was more RAM, more Video RAM, and the fastest video card you can get. Apparently the game is more dependent on your video card's abilities than the CPU. Also while 5.1 surround sound is supported, the game does all the sound work in software so it should sound just as good on an onboard sound module as an Audigy 2 ZS. Note that most onboard sound modules don't have 5.1 however ;)

If you can get this issue of PC Gamer (Sept 2004) before Doom3, do it! It has A LOT of AWESOME new screen shots!

In other words: Even 'mid range' is a system almost nobody can't afford. These graphics cards still cost way too much... Who the fuck has 1MB of RAM in his system? I don't...

Hey! I subscribed to PC Gamer. This next one has a review of Doom3 with a 94%? HELL YES!!! That definately means that this is the game we're waiting for! I haven't seen PC gamer give a 90% or higher to something for a while now. :P

Heh, as of 3 days ago....

It's still a disappointment looking at those specs. I was hoping my computer would be near the high spec with the upgrades, but it looks like it's going to be a mid-range with a slightly better video card. Bummer.

I hope you meant 1GB, and my brother has that for one. So do many of the people who play at my cousin's LAN parties.

I should have probably emphasized that they said the game will still look and run awesome on the mid-range system. Apparently the game also is able to some self-configuration to allow for the best performance/visual effects. At any rate, they pretty much promised that if you really need to upgrade for Doom3, it will certainly be worth it.

Not really sure how much more I can say without quoting the whole article. If possible, get a copy and read it yourself.
