I hope I'm doing something right

Post by Kom »

I joined ZDoom a while ago, made a few posts, and immediately disappeared. In that time I hardly did much Doom related. However, a few days ago I got a few programs for wad editing and just started making something. I want to know if any of you think I'm going in the right direction, and if not, I'd like suggestions on what I can do better.

So far I have the following:
Spoiler:
http://mokkom.dyndns.org:8000/advanced_1.wad (I really had no ideas for a title at the time.)
Note: I host my own webserver, it may be down from time to time or possibly be a bit slower than normal.

Sorry for it being so large, I can't seem to work well with the default textures supplied with Doom 2, so I just copied over all the ones from skulltag, regardless of whether or not they are being used. If there is a more efficient way of managing textures I'd appreciate the information.

I look forward to working on Zdoom projects, or at least learning how to do it right.

I'd say that's a very nice start indeed. It's only a couple of rooms so far but there is already quite a feeling of atmosphere. There is good use of light and dark and, even in that short section, a good indication that you know how to use some of the advanced Zdoom features well.

It can be reduced to around 3mb with something like 7zip, winzip, winrar, powerarchiver...

I thought about zipping it but i wasn't sure if that would really reduce the size by that much. Then again, I could have actually taken a few seconds to see if it did.

Looks quite nice, it's a great start! Might want to fix the giant HOM off to the left in the dark outdoor section, seen from the lower landing. :P

Hopefully the amount of mappage in the wad will justify the massive amount of space all of the textures are taking up too. <.<>.>

Those are some impressive screenshots, Kom. (Uh, by the way, I've got to ask - are you the same Kom from DigitalMZX?)
