On Zpack, and self evaluation.

Discuss anything ZDoom-related that doesn't fall into one of the other categories.

From what you've written, and that screenshot, I have precisely no idea what you've actually done or where you might have gone wrong. An example download map or something would come in handy.

And on the note of self-evalutation... I'm obviously not very good at that, as I just rushed through writing a report on the quality of my own work, where ironically the main problem was that I rush through my report writing due to a lack of interest :P I realised the irony just at the end of the write-up :P

Yep, I was just about to send whomever asked a demo map, but I found out what was wrong (Edited the previous post). A little experimentation helped out.

Heh. Tell me about it. I'll start something, go through the motion, and end up going "Eh...what am I doing this for again?".

But yeah, so far, so good. I think I know enough to create what the community would consider an above-average map, but i've reached the point where I cant just settle for the minimum anymore (I'm sure some of you veteran mappers here know what I'm talking about), and I have to cover every facet of Doom Editing.

I think I get how fans work. I'll post a screenie of a working fan hopefully within the next few hours.

With that, you mean that you know can only create ultra awesome full-of-ZDoom-features maps?

In that case, that's not true.

Take for example my map, Technophobia Overdose.

I've been mapping since 2005, and now that i'm an above average mapper (i think. :P), i think that it covers pretty much what i've learnt so far and what i'm able to do. And the map itself isn't so full of ZDoom features. Just some fancy scripting here and there and some polyobjects, nothing more. For the rest, it's just a basical map, that a lot of people have found it to be funny to play.

Just to be clear enough, i don't cover every facet of Doom editing, too. I still have to get used to SBARINFO and other lumps as well.
Remember, to create a good wad, not always the visual effects and fancy features count much. Gameplay counts a lot. That's my advice, Sagittaire.

On the money there Morpheus. Dont get me wrong: If anything, flashy tricks and special editing is but a bonus to flowing gameplay and fun experiences. There are a lot of maps out there that keep it simple and end up being loads of fun (For instance, Both Memento Mori Megawads, which were solely built upon spectacular level design). And that's part of the motivation for me challenging myself to learn how to do these special feature and effects: Turn a well-designed level that would make a person go "Hey, that's pretty damn nice", and add special tweaks to make them go "WOW! How the fuck did he do that?!?!".

/me looks for Technophobia Overdose.

as for how i mapped it, a bottle and a half of this helped out a lot
Spoiler:
A Case of Mountain Dew (or Irn-Bru, either works very fucking well) to get the heart going faster and the mind working more clearly, and some heavy doses of power metal to keep it up.
I thought Irn-Bru was illegal in this country due to a food coloring that may or may not cause cancer when injected directly into your veins in massive quantities or something. And what the hell is with all these Hello Kitty avatars?

That isn't the case, there is a manufacturing plant somewhere in the nation (I bought a case a few months ago just to sample). If what you say IS true, it's possible that they modified the formula slightly.
