XWE is being a b*tch

Post by DenisBelmondo »

I was working on my weapons mod, then all of a sudden, my D_WEPS lump (a regular DECORATE lump used by the "#include" function) was turned into an image! Can someone tell me if I could convert the image back to a text file? I tried opening D_WEPS with Notepad, but as I thought, it came up with a bunch of gibberish.

:x

Anyway, here's the WAD

I apologize for my 16th help topic, but this one really pisses me off.

Right click it, change it's type to 24, which is DECORATE.

Alternative method:

Right click on the lump, use EDIT SIZE and just increase the size by one point. What it does it it adds a custom character (letter, number, etc.), but it also makes it into a text lump again. Change that to avoid image-ization as needed. (Heh, guess why I keep using //anti-image? Might not work, but hey. XD)

Use slumped.
Less Flaws
Least amount of Crashes
Less of a chance that you wont totally fuck up your project

Has it changed much since 0.5? Last time I tried to use SLumpEd it kept eating my wads.

The latest slumped only tends to crash when I mess with those cursed old texture lumps. I highly recommend giving it another chance though, it's easily the best editor thus far.

0.7 is much better than 0.5. Beware of the TEXTUREx lumps indeed (especially the Strife ones -- the format is a bit different and Slumped doesn't like that at all) but it's quite reliable as long as you're only messing with text and image lumps, or cutting/copying/pasting entire selections of lumps.

Well, 0.7 didn't eat my wad, just locked up my system. :\ Oh well. I'll try it again at some later point.

@lilwhitemouse:I've never ran into the problem with slumped,It's been pretty stable for me.XWE kept crashing and I know when I was working on Redstar it damn near destroyed the project, luckily I had a backup saved. But the one thing that XWE CAN do is open up other games like Wolf3d,Blakestone,and Witchaven.(Though I've never really tried that so I can't really say if it works right or not)

It works quite well for that.

SlumpEd has a nasty chance of crashing when clicking on sound files sometimes, so it's not perfect, I use both XWE and SlumpEd, whatever is more conveniant for what I'm doing.
