Action Doom worked backwards for me.
I had never touched a Metal Slug game before. I loved Action Doom, and so I bought Metal Slug on the Wii's virtual console. Love at first sight.
I just find it kinda funny that a Doom mod based on ancient gameplay mechanics actually got me interested in the games it was based on.

Who says cross genre fps style doesn't have its place in doom. I find that action doom (the original) inspired me to pickup and play through Aline Hominid. Thanks scuba stave!Ceeb wrote: I just find it kinda funny that a Doom mod based on ancient gameplay mechanics actually got me interested in the games it was based on.

Well, damn, Ceeb. Now you've got me wanting to play it too. ;P
I do remember seeing an authentic Metal Slug arcade machine at a Pizza Hut a few years back. It's a shame I was out of quarters.

I haven't seen an arcade machine in... Over a decade. There used to be a cool arcade at the mall. It closed down. I loved the Simpsons wrestling game.Xaser wrote:I do remember seeing an authentic Metal Slug arcade machine at a Pizza Hut a few years back. It's a shame I was out of quarters.

My local Pizza Hut used to have those sometimes. I remember I kind of sucked on the actual machine though.Xaser wrote: I do remember seeing an authentic Metal Slug arcade machine at a Pizza Hut a few years back. It's a shame I was out of quarters.

I found original NeoGeo with Metal Slug even in Czech Republic few years ago. I played twice - I didnt wanted to spent all my pocket money on it.

Funny, I've been playing a lot of metal slug (the entire series, but mostly 3) over the last month or two. MAME ftw. Neo geo was awesome, I'd love to see SNK do a next-gen system with titles like last blade, samurai showdown, fatal fury, king of fighters...

Yes, though they are sadly a dying breed.Troy360 wrote:Wow arcade machiens still exist??
We had an arcade open here about 6 or 7 years back, and then sadly close its doors after being open only a couple years. Whenever I went in there it seemed pretty busy so I don't know what happened. I think there's some stupid chinese restaurant there now. I hate chinese food.

They had an old Ms. Pac-man machine that for some reason had the "super speed" dip switch set. (Anyone who's experimented with the game on MAME probably knows what I'm talking about) I'm not sure if it was that option being set or the machine was just faulty but I managed to crash it after about 7 levels.

There are also a small smattering of places within 10 miles of where I live that still have an arcade machine or two, and one place I can think of with a good dozen or so, but most of the machines in there tend to be the kind that spit out tickets so they can con little kids into wasting quarters on [censored word] "prizes" that they wouldn't put in a Cracker Jack box... Still, one such place does have a Neo Geo cabinet with Metal Slug 2 in it.
What I'd really like to do is buy/build my own arcade cabinet and run MAME in it. That would be sweet.
