2008 - A Doom Odyssey (aka 2002ADO v3)

Projects that have specifically been abandoned or considered "dead" get moved here, so people will quit bumping them. If your project has wound up here and it should not be, contact a moderator to have it moved back to the land of the living.

2008 - A Doom Odyssey (aka 2002ADO v3)

Post by Jive »

Here is the result of very hard work :

with the approval of Paul Corfiatis, a gentleman, I debugged and tried to improve a little bit "2002ADO v2", and improved it with Gzdoom features (at least, Zdoom ones).
For the purpose to don't make you confusing both of those megawads, I renamed my version "2008ADO".

All details of what was changed are in the html file

Did you read me clearly? I said: I have the authorization of Paul, ok?
It's a present for your Christmas, by advance.
Enjoy!

I released also another megawad for Doom1 (27 maps):
The Final Kill-me, made by S.A. Stephenson on November 17, 1997, revised by me (for example, E2M8 wasn't having any end. There is one, now).

I want to be very clear: (pretty) all the credits should go to the crew who made 2002ADO:
  • Paul Corfiatis (leader)
    Kristian Aro (co-leader)
    Chris Hansen
    VIRGIL "the Doom Poet"
    Sam "Metabolist" Woodman
    Rory Habich
    Anthony Soto
    Joseph Pallai.
You can forget my name (I don't care), but surely not none of these names !!!

What in God's name is wrong with you, making a reasonable project post like that?

I loved 2002: A Doom Odyssey, so I'm looking forward to this update. But the link to the download does not work...

It will work if you lowercase the "ADO" in the URL.

I am very sorry for this so stupid error: you was right, wolfman, it was necessary to uppercase "ado" ==> "ADO" in the link.
I corrected the error, and now the link is working.
Thank you to don't bypass the coded link, so that I can track the number of clicks.

You already said it once -- I can read just fine. True as it be, this unnecessary sentence just makes you look like a supreme ass. I don't see a single person in this thread so far accusing you of plagiarism.

I also feel the need to address this little gem from the 2008ADO page:
When I came back playing Doom, at the end of Sept. 2008, after 1.5 year far away from Doom, disgussed by the behavior of the majority of the players and users, disgussed also by some authors like Mike "Cyb" Watson (the author of Mass Mouth) who refused to me the authorization to release a version greatly improved and heavily debugged for Zdoom of both of his pwads, for the false pretext that he will update them by himself (1.5 year later, he didn't make anything at all on it ; at least, he didn't release anything, and my work is still sleeping on my computer, which is a pure shame), I had the idea to bring again to the Doom's community my skill for doing updates, improvements and debugging.
If you're wondering where all the "black comments" are coming from, this is why. There's nothing wrong at all with making a personal mod of a wad or even sharing it with the author's permission, but publicly slamming a modder as well-respected as Cyb for respectfully declining such a request is a very low blow. It's not your work that rubs most people the wrong way, but the attitude behind it.

Of course, there's always those retards who might take one glance at one of your enhanced wads and go "THIS IS STUPID" without even trying it. Those kinds of comments can always be safely ignored. ;P

Even having said all this, I'll take a look at the wad when I have more time and see how the new version stacks up.

  • I already made an update (on August 2006) of Alien TC, here:
    Atcud21
I won't make much, since it must stay like it is. This pwad is one of the most legendary pwads of the Doom's history.
Updating it more than what I done would not be correct.
"Alien Total Conversion for Ultimate Doom", version revised by me, a full episode with 11 maps, made by Justin Fisher on 1994. Here is the pwad the most downloaded after Sapphire on my site (as of Oct. 11, 2008). For that, he won the Silver medal.
Obituary (and not "obiticuary "), made on May 1995 by TiC, The Innocent Crew... It's on my list "TODO".
The problem is that they wrote in the text file:
Obituary is distributed as freeware. You are not allowed to change this package
But I already had exchanges of email with Denis Moeller by the past. So, I guess that it should be still possible to ask the right to make an update.
Stay tuned!

Xaser, you are 100% right !!
I ask you to apologize me by advance. I have some stuff to do for correcting these jerkiness errors...

I'm currently "updating & debugging" my behavior.
I guess that the version 2009 will be more pleasant and less aggressive...

Jesus... Why have I to protect me by advance like that?!? :?
Maybe because I was hardly attacked during a long time?

But I highly dislike to see me acting like that. >:(

[edit]I corrected the html file for 2008ADO, deleting the shameless passage about CyB, and I also uploaded another zip file with the corrected html file
I have now to track other possible "bugs" like this one... [/edit]
