Voodoo dolls in boxes
In some levels, even for Vanilla, you could see voodoo dolls closed in sectors that can be reached only using noclip. What are they doing there?

Maybe some of them. But other ones were motionless.

Re: Voodoo dolls in boxes
Voodoo dolls, without boom conveyor belts, can be used for a number of things still:
- Annoying instant-death teleports, like the teleport maze at the beginning of TNT Evilution map30.
- Giving the player weapons or powerups, by putting the voodoo doll within the range to pick up the item(s), but on a lift, so that it can't touch them until something in the map lowers that lift.
- Crushing the voodoo to death, either after a certain length of time (by putting them under a very high ceiling) or if the player does something that should kill them.
- Using controlled barrel explosions to push them over trigger lines, with the unfortunate side effect of doing a few points of damage as well.
And probably some other things I haven't thought of.

I thought it was a clever trick, not a clever puzzle. It got annoying quickly.Project Dark Fox wrote:Hey, I thought that was a very clever puzzle.esselfortium wrote:- Annoying instant-death teleports, like the teleport maze at the beginning of TNT Evilution map30.

Someone didn't pay attention to the rows of torches before the zone.
That was not a trial and error puzzle.

Of course, with regards to ZDoom, you can just use ACS instead of voodoo dolls.
The cheater solution to TNT MAP30 only works on the custom automap.

Re: Voodoo dolls in boxes
I knew about the automap after I started going through the teleporter (red skull door) where the soulsphere and the megaarmor are. I saved the items, but then I didn't know that door was going to be locked after it closed. I wanted to try to find a way back and then I saw a texture misalignment, so I started "sniffing" for the secret, and I got nothing. So, I used the automap, and figured out that near the beginning there were blue lines and white lines. I only use the automap to know much monsters and secrets are left or if I'm lost.
Hmm... I didn't know about that method.Project Dark Fox wrote:Someone didn't pay attention to the rows of torches before the zone. That was not a trial and error puzzle.

Re: Voodoo dolls in boxes
Of course, but if you're mapping for Boom-compatible ports you can create complex scripted setups just using voodoo dolls and conveyor belts. Single events, loops, if/then sequences, boolean variables, etc. can all be done pretty easilysniperchance wrote:Of course, with regards to ZDoom, you can just use ACS instead of voodoo dolls.

Before I tried to play TNT: Evilution without cheating, I used the fly cheat to beat that puzzle.Project Dark Fox wrote:Good gods, was I the only guy who got that puzzle right on the first (few) try (tries)?
