The Doom Universe
I've always wondered ever since quake 1 and 2 came out...are they in the doom universe?I always figured that the events of quake 1 and 2 took place many years after final doom.
Anyone have any theories?

Re: The Doom Universe
They're seperate games stories. End of really.
Re: The Doom Universe
Classic Doom (1, 2, Final Doom) all took part in one universe.
Quake 1 took part in another universe.
Quake 2 took part in a third universe.
Quake 3 took part in a fourth (which, admittedly, has sufficiently advanced aliens that are able to pull people from other universes).
Quake 4 took part in Quake 2's universe.
Doom 3 took part in a different universe from Classic Doom (though one very similar).
Basically, the only universe that spans different series is Wolfenstein/Commander Keen, since BJ Blazcowitz is said to Billy Blaze's grandfather.
The Quake series is not a series, just id being fed up with looking for non-trademarked names with less than six letters.
Though it would be funny if it was meant to be the same world as Doom because the story in Quake 1 is basically the story of Doom with some details changed around. (It's still an invasion of supernatural monsters from another dimension caused by the development of a teleportation technology that created portals between our world and theirs.) I can just see the people at the UAC going all, "okay, our competitors devised a teleportation technology that resulted in Earth being overrun by lovecraftian horrors. Our shareholders expect us to top them with a better product soon! What do you propose? A teleportation technology that will get both Earth and Mars overrun by demons? Ah, good idea, it would definitely show them who are the leaders in the field of threatening the whole human race with extradimensional monsters! Let's get started!"
Also, if you look at it, it seems Classic Doom is more futuristic than Quake 1 (notably because it's in space, rather than on Earth) while Quake 2/4 are at least as futuristic as Classic Doom.

Re: The Doom Universe
Truthfully this is how I always saw it...
Demons invaded Mars and earth(plus various other instances like TNT and Plutonia)
After the last of the demons were wiped out humanity hit a dark age of technology. UAC was no more(Either because majority of the staff were killed off or maybe the government finally disbanded the Company) This gave rise to the research into slipgates which in turn resulted in the invasion of earth again by some dimensional creatures. After this earth seemed to get back on it's feet it was invaded by the strogg.
Thought about drawing up a timeline.

Re: The Doom Universe
Once again: You take this too seriously.
I mean, you can fele free to invent these sorts of things in your head, and even make a fanfic of it, but I'd say you think about this sort of thing a bit much.

Captain Proof, the Strogg attacked Earth (ET:QW) in 2060. What time does Doom take place, and why don't we have Plasma Rifles and BFG9000s in ET:QW?

Interesting, but all those games except quake 2 are pretty much non cannon now anyway.Captain Proof wrote:Truthfully this is how I always saw it...

I don't remember the date being given anywhere for Classic Doom, but Doom 3 takes place in 2145.Ghastly_dragon wrote:Captain Proof, the Strogg attacked Earth (ET:QW) in 2060. What time does Doom take place, and why don't we have Plasma Rifles and BFG9000s in ET:QW?

Re: The Doom Universe
to me Quake 2's universe is in the Doom continuity, quite a simple reason actually, BFG 10000, the next up model of the BFG 9000
of course thats just me, but to me it kinda makes sense this way, explains how the supernatural creatures of Doom like the Cyberdemon, Spiderdemon, Mancubi, ect. have cyber bits, somewhere along the line they must have been encountered by the Strogg and they attempted to Stroggify them and it back fired, as to how the Strogg encountered the Demon Realms? simple really, they used teleportation technology so they were bound to cross paths

Re: The Doom Universe
Go read the old Doom books..well, the first 2 anyway...they show a good good interpritation of the Doom Universe! =O
Re: The Doom Universe
The depressing thing about the Doom universe is that there are Hell and its demons waiting to feast on your soul in the afterlife; but it doesn't seem to be the good opposite, heaven and its angels. It gives it the same bleak "cosmic horror" aspect as in Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos: yes, there is something greater, out there -- and it hates you and will drive you insane.
Good thing superior firepower works against them. Except when it doesn't (Doom 3 Cyberdemon).
Of course, all this grittiness is totally ruined when demons are explained away as being just a virus (Doom movie) or rude aliens playing a prank (Doom novels).

Re: The Doom Universe
Or in World of Darkness terms the UAC are actually Void Engineers (the Technocracy) or maybe Virtual Adapts/Sons of Ether experimenting on teleportation on "Phobos" and "Deimos" (which are actually umbral realms) and suffered paradox (reality backlash) by resulting hordes of Umbroods that resemble demons from a umbral realm that resembles "Hell" crossing over or maybe could have opened up the "Thousand Hells" from Kindred of the East where the Yama Kings/Queens reside...which ofcourse the "Earth" from Doom 2 is actually a Technocrat/Sons of Ether/Virtual Adapt horizon realm resembling Earth but in their ideal world.
