Heretic and Hexen Alphas and Betas.

Post by Amuscaria »

DO the betas of Heretic and Hexen exit fopr download? If so, do they contain sprites that are not found in the final versions (like the Doom Alphas and betas)? I was just curios to see what's inside.

I know there is a Hexen beta out there somewhere. It only included the first 5 levels like the shareware I think. I'm not sure either of these contain any exclusive lumps.

When where did LMW get those "Armored Golem" sprites for her H-Quest? They look JUST like the mummies from Heretic but bigger and a bit more human like. Too bad they only have the frontal attack frames.

I think the armored golems actually came from CyClones, an earlier Raven game built on a custom engine.

Ah, that would explain the single attack direction.

But if you are moving on to 3D realms games, the Duke Nukem beta (LameDuke) has lots of interesting stuff that never made the final release, including some very usable sprites. XWE can extract them just fine too.
