Look at the percent and the number of votes. You will notice it says 43 votes for ZDoom and 43% people voted for it. You will then notice the GZDoom option. 57 votes for 56%. The number of votes add up to 100, but the percent adds up to 99.

I can't believe I didn't notice that before. :?

There's something else I've only just noticed with all this talk of Graf Zahl's name. Is GZDoom named after Graf Zahl?

I think is in the other way. Graf Zahl (afaik) is a nickname ( :? )... Im inclined to think the 'G' in GZdoom has to do with gl stuff


Anyway, I use both, Zdoom and GZdoom. But my vote goes to Zdoom

I love the dynamic light in GZdoom. but I hate this:

Menu -> Options -> Display options -> Opengl options -> adjust sprite clipping -> always.
Done. :)

It can't. The software renderer never clips sprites to the sector planes so any pixel that's technically below the floor is still drawn. A z-buffer doesn't allow that to happen.

I'm sure with some crazy shader coding, you can get the sprite clipping to behave exactly like how it does in the software renderer...

Unfortunately not. I'd have to manipulate the depth information in a very specific manner and that's not that easy.

I voted Gzdoom for extra features even if the only thing I really hate in software rendering is the glitch that happen on
large areas especially on gray textures I know that no mipmap in software. :)

It's not the other way around. Graf Zahl was known by that name long before he started coding GZDoom. I think he just added G to the beginning of ZDoom because it was too good a coincidence that the two together gave his initials.

Timmie said he was doing a complete rewrite so it's going to be a long while before we see any progress on ZDoomGL.
