Most of the RPGs I really liked were fun right from the very start. Final Fantasy VII comes to mind. We had intended several bosses, with a system where you level and gain HP / Armor / Strength / Speed. Also I had random weather effects planned (random rain, snow, the occasional tornado), night/day changes and all the fun stuff.
But... I'm lazy of course.
