HELP!! Ghost sectors

Post by mikenet2007 »

I am making a doom2 level and im on day2, I got zdoom 3 days ago and Im running into trouble!! My experience with doom editors is minimal, I havent used one in 8 to 10 years and when I did it was brief because I moved on to Building duke levels and eventualy ut2004 stuff. I plan on having a map complete here soon because I want a completed doom based map to my name :) .

My problems have been numerous but most of them im figuring out. This one I have yet to figure out. There has been some minor glitching in the "doom builders" 3d mode for some time now and im not sure what triggered that but most recently I went to make my first elevator shaft and the whole map blew up, with problems both in the editor and in the game. Merged sectors in the game, with streaks of color stretching across the screen. Its an hom effect as well and this is not to do with the fact I dont have textures in place. I have them on every visible wall the player will see. I am using "doom builder" with zdoom, and the wad of doom2. Here are some pics, any help will be apreciated. My understanding of doom workflow is not yet 100% and comes mostly from my knowlage of other editors like Mapster or Build for duke 3d, and what I've learned in the past two days.

Dude I think you've used up your attachment quota... it might be easier to delete the pictures and post (a zip of) the wad itself so we can see for ourselves.

I saw the over-lapped sector in the very first pic.
THat is a no-no. That'll break many maps, it's time to check the properties of those lines that the sectors belong to, as they're not closed.
That's what's caused the bleeding.

This is the wrong forum and without the map itself any help will be reduced to guesswork. But it all looks like classic mapping errors to me like missing textures, overlapping sectors, incorrectly facing linedefs and so on.

Its not missing textures, I found an overlapping line I accidentally made in the shaft. So I'm ok now, but I'm having trouble opening my map in a doom in hexen format, very quickly, I know this is off topic but is it possible to switch to doom in hexen format, if you started your map in a doom in doom format? Thanks

It doesnt specify how its used. I typed the following in the dos prompt with the map file in the same folder as the converter program, but it didnt work and came with no directions :(

E:\p.c. games\DOOM\Doom Builder\convert>zdwadconv <new map 3.wad> <converted.wad>

The message I got was.........

< was unexpected at this time.

How is this utility used? I tried opening it directly and in a dos prompt but cant seem to figure it out.

E:\p.c. games\DOOM\Doom Builder\convert>zdwadconv newmap3.wad converted.wad
Make sure you rename 'new map 3.wad' to 'newmap3.wad'

Or put it in quotation marks.

zwadconv "new map 3.wad" converted.wad

Wierd, in the introduction file it said type zdwadconv when the program is called zwadconv with no D, that was one thing, plus it doesnt seem to work if you use the <> as it suggest.

Cool program, bad directions, but I finnaly got it.

No, it gives the correct directions; you just need to know how command lines for any program work
