Zdoom fullbright issue

Post by Dancso »

Hi guys.

I have a little problem with zdoom, as all the wads i play, every sectors have fullbright(255) and it ruins the feel of the game. Help.

All i can tell you is, that I did not change anything other than player settings, display settings(ingame) and resolution.

I'm kinda dumb to zdoom:(

Any ideas?

Pull down the console (~) and change r_visibillity to 8 (or 16, whatever the defualt is).
If that doesn't fix it, I don't know what the problem is. Perhaps you set gamma or brightness too high?

r_visibility isn't saved into the INI; it is reset everytime you run ZDoom.

The only possibility of r_visibility being set at startup is if it's in autoexec.

I don't think it's the gamma because he says that every sector looks like it has a 255 light value.

I think he should at least try to adjust his gamma or brightness. It could solve his problem.

No guys, im not that dumb.
I'ts not the gamma, nor brightness. i have minimum of these 2.

I dont know what causes this problem, as i deleted my profile .ini, and i also unzipped zdoom again, and it still has 255 light in every sectors.

Here is what my .ini file contains:

Damn, this sure beats me? Something wrong with doom2.wad? Maybe the PWAD you're playing is lit that way? I'm throwing guesses here!

EVERY wad has fullbright.
It seems that this is only with zdoom, as i tried doomsday, and it was working fine.

Do you use any software to boost the brightness/gamma of you monitor? I have this same problem and use software to increase brightness/gamma.

Nope. My monitor is bright enough.

Are you loading any other files? Anything in your /skins folder?

Reminder: This guy knows his shit, he's not talking about screen brightness. He's saying all sectors are lit as if they have a 255 light value. It is easy to tell the difference between a fullbright sector and a high screen brightness/screen gamma. They are two completely different things and are easily distinguishable.

Now, as for the problem itself - I've never heard of a such a problem. Even if he's (unknowingly) auto-loaded something from /skins/ or whatever, it can't possibly overwrite the light values for every IWAD or PWAD.

Can you post a screenshot so we can see how exactly things look like on your screen?

But it CAN overwrite the COLORMAP data so if something in the skins directory has a full bright COLORMAP, it'll make everything look like 255 brightness

I forgot about COLORMAP. You're right, there might be an autoloaded WAD that has a modified COLORMAP.
