Finally, someone agrees. Now, did you like Quake4?Belial wrote:Q1 is a great game, unlike the borefest that is Q2.

I kind of liked it, but due to my PC running the game blowfully, I played it on the Xbox 360, the frame rate was really jumpy, as it was a rushed port just to be in time for launch. All and all, I liked it, just getting the achievements was enough for me(PC people dont get em, but still, felt nice getting points for going through a level with just the blaster)

Strange. I'd list the exact same reasons why I like Quake 2 better.

I found Q1 visually unappealing, dull and badly balanced. There's nothing to deny. The facts in my book clearly state that Q2 is superior in every conceivable way. Even the disappointing final boss beats Q1's Shub Niggurath which is one of the lamest things I have ever seen.
@chaoscentral: At one point when playing on a difficulty above the easiest, I found myself having to use the blaster because for some reason I couldn't handle any of the others (despite having played the game through 2 and a half times beforehand). It's a little weird how any and all of the guns seem to work out exactly the same way in the end...
So I'm not the only one. I rather liked that game. Not as much as 2, but it had a pretty decent storyline and the gameplay was fun. Much like the Half-Life series.Phobus wrote:Whilst many people would complain about Quake 4's linearity, I know I'm not the olny person who enjoyed playing it through. However, it has little to no replay value.
Worse. If ID wanted to have references in the 'Tulzscha' or Outer gods believes (Chtulhu and that stuff) they should've known the way Shub was represented in Q1 was really a matter form o her spawn, aka "Dark Youn". The REAL Shub Niggurath looks really like this:Q1's Shub Niggurath which is one of the lamest things I have ever seen.

Have a read here:

I find absolutely idiotic how references are fucked up in some games they are used, such as US Marines in Quake 4 in 2200 ++. Stuff either makes sense or is bullshit.
Now rant away

Don't forget when it was made. It was one of the first games that had good support for the first generation of hardware accelerated 3D rendering but it had to run with software rendering as well. You can't expect the same kind of technological perfection that you are used to in more modern games - even Half Life. Back when it was new its graphics blew most people away.
The awesome game that is Quake1 was made before it (der...), dont give me this technical limit crap. Technical limit shouldnt limit weapon/enemy/level coolness...Graf Zahl wrote:Don't forget when it was made.
