Moderation policy ideas
what has gotten into everybody? Every time without fail, moderation brings up a big sore point in the community. Ultimately we will reach the same dead end we do every time policies about forum control come under discussion.
This topic boils down to who agrees with bans over locked topics. Ironc how it probabily will be locked sometime in the future.

*Sigh*
What did I say back on the second page of this very thread? Ah yes:

If you're not interested in a topic, try to remember that there are most likely other people who *are* interested in that topic. These people are probably *not* interested in the fact you are not interested in the topic, so don't bother posting just to say so.

A forum is defined by the people who use it. Intelligent people, thus intelligent, worthwhile conversations. And vice versa.
Maybe the reason why these forums have gone downhill (at least, according to the "phorumers") is because the userbase has spread from those who were mainly interested in ZDoom to those who want to use this as a discussion for off-topic stuff.
To be quite honest, I think the color system is a little excessive. Just Red to warn a potential lock is enough for me. As for the tempbans, 24 hours plus 6 hours per offending post sounds good.

Off-topic is what keeps the board alive, like it or not. People wouldn't come here as often if it wasn't around. That would mean fewer zdoom-specific questions answered and more time between answers.
If people can't assemble and discuss whatever, this forum will lose lots of life.
Now, this isn't what you're saying, I know that.
But, you're willing to take out the pottymouths. The kind of people who has the guts to tell someone on the internet that they aren't as cool as they think they are in whatever fashion seems appropriate. The kind of people who shaped the hard core of the community. The kind of people who dreaded CIoN.
Now, CIoN is upon us like a festering plague, and what do the mods want to? Take the armaments down. Yippie. Seems like ZDoomForums.wad might have to be a jokewad in it's truest sense.
Now, the general forumgoer can be blamed too. Ever since moderation came here, "user x wins!!", "in your face, user y" and "pwnt" has been swapped with "post reported", "stop bickering, post reported" and some more reporting of posts.
You know who you are.
The kind of people who spam the "Report this post to a moderator" button more times a day than there are seconds in a year. Maybe CIoN in reality are the regulars bent on utilizing the moderators for all they're worth? Use the mods to weed out every little detail the regular in question doesn't like? To attack another user (like myself) silently, without me knowing, by using the blasted report button.
Maybe I and you are on the same team in some weird alliance? But I don't seek to destroy the moderators by overstressing them with worthless reports.
In my opinion, the moderators' presence has alone disturbed the forum more than they can repair with their current effort.
