I'm looking for some medieval sprite decorations, you know, the usual stuff, wall torches, braziers, chandeliers, hanging decorations, a couple of trees, etc. The only place where I think I can get some is Enjay's Doom: The Dark Project map.
Any other ideas? I remember LWM's Heretic mod had some nice spritework but I can't imagine how converting those to Doom palette and sprite names would work.
Actually I have no idea how sprite replacement works at all and I shun it like the devil. So I would appreciate any and all recommendations or links to wads that contain some sort of medieval sprites that can be used directly through injecting them in my resource wad. It doesn't matter what original D2 sprites they replace, I'll not be using any of the original decorations.
Thanks!

XWE is capable of fitting sprites to a pallette, using a closest match rule. It usually works quite well, and MSPaint can be used to solve any real problems.
If you Hexen or Heretic, those would probably be a good place to start for medieval sprites (I don't have them, so I'm guessing). Also, if the permission to use them is available, Kristus' Phobia - The Age had a load of nice statues and torches.

Anyway, I found my copy. It's 25 MB which would take me a while to upload - and my connection is quite flaky tonight - so I pulled out the slack handful of sprites that are in there for decorations and stuck them in a zip. Perhaps they will be of use.
BTW, I assume you know most of the decorations in my Thief WAD came from Hexen?
Anyway, a few decoration-like items from daggerfall. They're not in a WAD, but that could be solved easily enough. Not sure how they'll convert to the Doom palette. However, if you want to aim at GZDoom, that ceases to be an issue.

Shouldn't do - not if you have them as paletted PNG images. I normally use DeePsea for my importing, but XWE should be able to import them as raw lumps. They may look as if they have been forced into the Doom palette when you view them in XWE, but in game they will be shown with their own palette. XWE also has the ability to align png sprites in its GUI environment. I'm not aware of any other tool that allows that.Curunir wrote:Woudln't XWE rape them to Doom palette on import?
For example, the attached file contains a DECORATE version of the four armed statue with flames. It's not that obvious because the colours are not that dramatically different from the Doom palette, but the sprites are PNG graphics in their own palette, and not Doom format graphics. To make it more obvious, I added the sort-of-cyan coloured statue too. Regular Zdoom seems OK with these too. I've have a performance hit when using PNG textures in Zdoom, but these seem OK. Zdoom, of course, shows them in their nearest match to the Doom colours - so the cyan statue becomes grey.
I think the torch statue would look very good once a dynamic light was assigned to it.
[edit]Added a cat from DF too, just for fun.[/edit]
